Good dear readers, although it is true that technology continues to advance by leaps and bounds and with the arrival of digital currencies we are exempt from carrying amounts of bills, coins and going to the bank, as human beings we always have the need to be willing to socialize with other people. That is why sometimes it is important to look back and observe how our grandparents and ancestors managed to exchange their agricultural consumer products, goods and services with other people for others that they would require at the time but lacked money. This is not a newly invented adventure, bartering before many of us were born already existed, so I would like to share with you a different alternative to socialize, and how not? What is barter?
Barter is called the exchange of products without involving the value of money. This is the most primitive and common form of exchange, all peoples have implemented it at the time to satisfy their basic needs. Barter is reciprocal and multidirectional, it can be given between two or more people, for objects of the same value and at the same time.
What is the barter market?
A barter market is one that is made up of several people or communities that are producers and consumers, and who have formed in solidarity to exchange and share their products, goods, services, knowledge and skills in a reciprocal way. The essence of this market is to preserve and generate a greater camaraderie among its attendees by using the currency that has the most value in the world, that is the social currency, protected by respect for free thought, plurality and diversity.
As a fair, producers and consumers bring their products, goods, services, knowledge and skills, and are auctioned by others required. The exchange takes place as if it were in a common market, the difference is that you will not make use of the money and you can honestly exchange things of the same value with other members.
You can offer from clothes, accessories, footwear, food, fruits, and vegetables to plumbing services, hairdressers, mechanics, among others.
Producers and consumers in barter
All the members that participate in the barter market must be producers and consumers, or in effect generate or provide a service. They are in charge of offering their products, goods, services, knowledge or skills to the group and in response to their demands, receive from other barter members the products, goods, services, knowledge and skills that they need or require, they are also in charge to maintain security and order. Example: José is a plumber and offers his services in the barter market, in exchange he demands a hairdresser for a haircut. If in the market there is a hairdresser with plumbing needs they can exchange their demands by mutual agreement.
Where can these markets work?
In your community or town there are many free access spaces, the barter market can work in public places, service centers, meeting centers, collection centers, in a garage, sports centers and squares. The participants must organize themselves, each one of them is in charge of facilitating the barter.
The value of the products
Each producer and consumer determine the value of their products, and these must be based on their demands or needs. If you want to exchange a kilo of potatoes for a goat, you may find yourself back home with your products. The value of products lies in logic and there should be no overvaluation.
