We might forget how and what we are for being busy taking care of other things and people. We tend to appreciate people around us and forget to praise ourselves. We value and cherish others than ourselves. We believe and trust other people easily but doubted our own.

Let's change this mindset! Know your place and value, not your weaknesses. Develop your self-worth and confidence. Surround yourself with willingness and positivity in life. Avoid toxic people in your surroundings and don't get intimidated by their wrong beliefs.

What is the meaning of self-esteem?

It is all about yourself. It is also called self-worth. It characterizes how you see yourself existence. Knowing your potentials and boundaries. Loving yourself, and having self-respect and self-acceptance. Appreciation of your own life, embracing your flaws and imperfections. It defines how you value, believe, and understand everything about yourself. Praising your abilities and potentials. Accepting gratitude and awards.

There are two types of self-esteem:

1) High self-esteem means you trust and believe in yourself. You have accurate and positive views of your abilities.

*You are confident of what you're doing.

*You are thinking that you are above or belong and equal to anyone else.

*You act and talk positively about yourself and you are focusing on what is present.

*You are not easily discouraged and persuade by anyone's negative impressions about you.

*You stick and mean what you've said.

*You are trying to avoid things that could affect your dignity.

2) low self-esteem means you are less likely to believe in yourself. Lack of confidence and full of doubt in everything.

*Feelings of anyone is always better and capable of doing things.

*You have difficulties in prioritizing your wants and needs and always depend on others. You are having a hard time to make your own choice.

*Always feels guilty and full of doubt. Full of many excuses.

*Always end up saying "sorry" although without wrongdoings.

*Always feel awkward and shy.

Causes of having low self-esteem

  • Trauma and any kind of abuse.

  • Lack of support from parents, relatives, friends, and acquaintances.

  • Being compared and differed from someone else.

  • Family problems and financial status.

  • Low performance inside and outside the school. Less likely to participate in school activities.*

  • Envy from what others have.

  • Always bullied by anyone.

  • Physical appearance and defects.

  • Abnormalities/Disabilities.

What is the significance of self-esteem?

Self-esteem plays a heavy role in making decisions and perspectives in life. It will help us to reach our goal and be determined to succeed. You are less likely to do things you might regret later. Helps you motivate through ups and downs.

Believing and trusting your ability and potentials will offer you a lifetime path to success. It will encourage you not to easily give up on one thing you want. Surround yourself with people who have positive views on life. They will help you to cultivate mold as a human. Makes extra effort to attain your goal and dedication. Knowing your worth and values will give you the courage and strength to fight for life.
