My Pacemaker and I Made a Record.

Elizabeth has been very active since she was young, always taking advantage of any free space to ride a bike. But what Elizabeth likes most is running. At work, she keeps an eye on the sports days that are held to celebrate the company's anniversary. She has been taking part in marathons with her colleagues for a long time. And last year was no exception. Even in the pandemic season, the company only held the marathon, because it was in an open space, and she took part.

On the day of the marathon, together with several co-workers, she went out running with the optimistic mind that she would lower her own personal best in the competition that day. It wasn't a few minutes into the run when dizziness was the warning sign. This symptom started to manifest itself in the following days at work. He had to go to the cardiologist and after the consultation, he was fitted with a Holter monitor and it was there that he became aware of what was going on.

In the 24 hours she had the Holter on her arm, it gave her an alarming reading. Her heart had stopped 55 times, 5 seconds for each stop. In the doctor's office, as if he was being talked to senselessly, he heard the cardiologist's voice telling her about the urgent intervention to place a pacemaker. She couldn't believe it! It took her a few minutes to react. She just thought at that moment that she had always been a healthy woman, because of her sporty lifestyle, she didn't drink, she didn't smoke, and she always tried to eat healthily and of course did a lot of physical exercises. Surely it was a mistake.

The cardiologist replied that it was not a mistake, that there was no mistake. And on that day she thought her life was going to change completely. She just said: "I just became a sick person". Knowing that she was no longer going to enjoy a normal life and above all doing sports, cycling, running, that fact became at that moment one of her biggest worries.

The following week the pacemaker was implanted. Everything went well, without complications, but now she faced in her mind and heart a great sadness and disappointment in life. Still recovering in the hospital, her cardiologist came to check up on her and confirm the success of a very delicate operation. "Doctor, I'm so passionate about my sporting life, cycling, running, and I'll never be able to do it again" and she began to cry. Then she received an answer that changed everything, an answer that once again enlightened her face... "Who told you that you can't do sports, your heart has a pacemaker, but you are not ill"...

From that day on, with the Doctor's words, she completely changed her way of facing her new reality.

From that day on, Elizabeth made up her mind to follow the routine in the best possible way. If everything went well, she would soon be running again. And with that in mind, she focused all her strength. After a few weeks at home, she gradually started training again. At first only mentally. And in less than a month she was back on the streets. "I put on my trainers again and slowly, to test myself, I ran for 10 minutes very slowly". Just two months later she was in a marathon and arrived at the finish line with her colleagues holding hands, she didn't achieve her physical best, but she did break the mental record: "that day, my pacemaker and I made an important record, we overcame the physical and especially the mental barriers".

This story is based on a real event, all the events and outcomes are taken from a real event, only the name of the protagonist and the environment where the events took place has been changed.

Wearing a cardiac device is for every person something shocking, we all would like to be completely healthy. But what to do when the reality is like this? We must go on, because life goes on. If you have survived open heart surgery and are still breathing, then God is giving you your second chance. With the help and guidance of your doctor, family, friends, and above all with your faith in God, you get over it, recover from the operation and go on, because life is beautiful. It is advisable to lead a healthy and active life, exercise, and play sports with a pacemaker is possible. The cardiologist will help you by recommending an exercise program, adapted to the needs and capabilities of the person who has an implanted cardiac device. He will assess your physical capabilities, but what about mental capabilities, it all depends on you, to what extent you are captive of your mind.

It all depends on you if your thoughts do not let you free your life, years go by and you are still under the mental scheme that "you are sick and you can't do it", then let me tell you that you must get out of that mental yoke that enslaves you, that robs you of your life. There is a biblical passage that comes to mind, in John 10:10 "the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" Don't let your thoughts steal your dreams, kill your will to live and destroy your life.

Consult your doctor if you have an implanted cardiac device, and start on the road to an abundant, truly FULL life. Anything is possible, You can do it.

I would like to know your opinion on today's topic.

Do you have a family member with an implanted cardiac device?

Can you tell me, how do they live their life?

I have a patient that uses a pacemaker for years and it seems she's doing really okay, except that she's not running anymore but the doctor said walking 30 mins 5x a week is enough.

Good for that patient. He has decided to continue with his life routine. I think having a pacemaker must be shocking, but what physical condition isn't life goes on and you have to adapt to the new reality. That is the message I want to convey in this post. Thank you my friend for your contribution to my content, yes it can be done, it all depends on the person who has the condition.
