Poverty Is Real, So What Are You Going To Do About It?

When you face a problem, you cannot close your eyes and imagine there is no problem. You go through different phases of life. It would be difficult to think about how hard it can be in a situation when you struggle to meet basic needs.

Poverty is real, there is no way you can sugarcoat it to make it feel good. So what can you do being a situation like that? The first thing is, you have to make money. Start something or do a job, you have to make money to put food on the table and support your family.

You have to meet the basic needs first. When you don't have anything to eat, talking about saving money is useless. When you start making money and supporting your family, you can slowly take steps to improve your financial situation.

When you have more skills, you can make more money. So focusing on improving your skills is definitely a good move that can bring a significant change in your life. What you are doing to make a living now, you can learn more about that to get to a better position. You can focus on what you are good at and improve your skills in that sector.

You keep making money, that's great. Now you can start saving money. Make sure that you have an emergency fund first before moving on to the next thing.

Your emergency fund will act as a safety net and support you to deal with an emergency situation. If you don't have an emergency fund, and you start doing something else, you may fail to keep doing that while facing an emergency situation.

Set your financial goals. You will have a clear idea of where you want to go and how you should allocate your time and task so that you can work to achieve that. A lot of things are going on in life and you may get distracted. But when you have financial goals, it helps you to be on track.

Don't expect things will change magically and you can improve your finances in a short period of time. As a matter of fact, you have to work consistently, and it takes a long to have a significant change in your financial situation.

What you are going through in your life, that's reality. And you have to make your move based on reality to break the cycle and improve your finances. So what do you think?

Please feel free to leave your comments. Thank you for reading this post. That's it for now. I'll be back with another post.

I was glad you went the direction you did with this article. Reading the title alone I was sure this was going to go in the usual direction, blaming poverty on big business, the rich, societal problems and whatever other excuses people tend to make regarding poverty.

To me poverty is almost always a personal issue. It's a lack of understanding of money issue. It's a spending issue. It's a capitulation issue and and issue of having the wrong idea and focus on WHY someone is dealing with poverty.

At the end of the day the only one who can truly help a person out of poverty is the person who is IN poverty.

As I have always said, you cannot simply hand someone money and expect to fix the problem. You cannot simply pay someone more and expect to fix the problem. If the person in poverty does not fully grasp and understand money, no amount of money will ever lift them out of poverty.

We see this often when an impoverished man wins the lottery or becomes a star athlete. Even millions of dollars can't fix the problem and most of those people still wind up broke.

Well said.

As I have always said, you cannot simply hand someone money and expect to fix the problem.

I completely agree with you. If some people do not want to change and improve their financial situation, you cannot help to fix their problems by giving them money. They will not use that money properly. And they end up being in the same situation.

If someone has a burning desire to change, that person will find a way to move forward. And if someone helps that person, he can do that faster. Even if that person does not get any help, he/she will not give up. The way you think matters and your action can make a difference.

I agree 100% and glad there is someone else out there who "gets it," because more often than not I think most people DON'T get it. It's like the argument over the $15 minimum wage. Will adding a dollar or two to someone's hourly wage help them to have a better financial future?

No.

Why? Because the issue is rarely ever an earnings issue, but rather a SPENDING issue, and so if you give someone who does not know how to manage money MORE money, all they will do is SPEND more money. Not provide for themselves to actually get ahead and make a difference in their financial future.

Long and short is that we agree. :)

An emergency fund should always be untouched. Sometimes we overspend and exhaust our savings. When in emergency need, we feel lost. So, the emergency fund must constantly be refilled.

An emergency fund is there for a reason and it has a specific purpose. So not only create but only maintain the emergency fund so that you can always keep the same balance.

That's the only working sustainable solutions you mentioned and it may take years or even a decade to get free from this. Learning finance isn't that hard, sticking to a disciplined life with disciplined finance is a bit but when practiced, it easily kills half of our problems.

You can solve a lot of problems if you really want to do that. No matter how bad the situation is, you have a choice. How many people make that move, that's the big question.
