How Did BitKeep Wallet Users Lose Their Crypto?
Everyone says, not your keys, not your crypto. You transfer your cryptocurrency after buying from a centralized crypto exchange. You hold your private keys. Your crypto is supposed to be safe and secure since you ensure the safety and security of your private keys.
You don't understand still how people lose their crypto from their crypto wallet. Recently BitKeep wallet was hacked and many people lost their crypto. It was reported that users' crypto on BitKeep wallets was drained and transferred while they were not using their wallets. Strange! How could this happen in spite of holding their private keys?
When I heard the news about BitKeep wallet hacks, I searched bitkeep wallet, and I saw a Google ad at the top of the search engine result page. Guess what? The ad for the Bitkeep wallet is not the original website of the BitKeep wallet.
If people click the link and download the wallet, they already get hooked in the hacker trap. As soon as they insert private keys, hackers will not waste any time wiping out crypto from the wallet. It was found that hackers lured users to phishing sites.
When users download the wallet APK package to install or update, they are asked to insert private keys in the process of updates. Hackers are in control of your crypto as soon as they get your private keys.
It is not possible to steal your crypto from your wallet unless it gets compromised somehow. Be careful when you download any crypto wallet. Make sure you use official sources to install or update your wallet. In case you see any ads when you search about the crypto wallet, watch out and don't fall into the trap of hackers.
You can type the official wallet website address on the address bar of your browser to land on the right website. Or, when you search, check out whether that is an official website or not.
Maybe you are wondering how come hackers get sensitive personal data to initiate hacking attempts. Did you know that 400 million Twitter accounts data leaked and offered for sale? It is shocking to see this. It raises questions about how vulnerable centralized social media's security is.
Once you lost your crypto, it's gone forever. It is sad to see people losing their crypto in different ways. Hackers use different tricks to hack and steal cryptocurrency. You have to ensure security and safety. The thing is, no one cares more about your crypto than yourself.
