If you are in crypto, you are probably active on Twitter. Most of the time, you get to know the latest news and updates from Tweets. You trust popular Twitter accounts and follow them. You are more aware of crypto scams. What if a Twitter account with huge followers promotes a giveaway scam?

Web3 security firm WalletGuard warns the crypto community about promoting a fake Uniswap giveaway on Whalechart's Twitter account. Hackers somehow got access to that account and targeted people to fall into their traps.

Hackers attempt to impersonate the original Uniswap website address while promoting this fake giveaway. If you click the link, you will be asked to connect your wallet to claim the giveaway of $500 worth of Uniswap’s native token, UNI. No one wants to miss free money.

If you click the link and connect your crypto wallet, hackers can wipe out your crypto from your wallet. You will be left with nothing. It is stated that Whalechart regained access to the Twitter account. Hackers used a scheduled tweets feature on a third-party Twitter client TweetDeck to promote this fake Uniswap giveaway.

It is not confirmed whether anyone clicks the fake giveaway link and falls victim to this scam. You cannot trust giveaway blindly only because it comes from a popular Twitter account. That Twitter account could be compromised somehow, and you can quickly fall into scammers' and hackers' traps. It is sad, but people lose their crypto and NFTs.

Do you remember the NFT influencer who lost a life-changing amount of net worth? He just made one mistake by clicking sponsored ads link to download an open-source video streaming software OBS. Everything seemed okay, but it was not. He first noticed unusual activity by seeing phishing tweets on his Twitter accounts.

If anyone clicks the links on his tweet since he is an influencer, that person will be the next victim. Once hackers get access to any account or computer, they spread phishing links to make more people fall into their traps.

It could happen to anyone. You get to know about this when the news comes out. There are way more scams and hacks that you may not know about. I wish no one would go through the terrible experience of losing their crypto asset. It is painful. Watch out and stay safe!

So what do you think? Please feel free to leave your comments. Thank you for reading this post. That's it for now. I'll be back with another post.
