Don't Fall Victim To Malicious Ads and Lose Your Crypto Assets
You use the internet and you don't see any ads, that's unlikely to happen. When you browse any website, you may see ads over there. You see ads on social media. When you search on Google, you see ads on the search engine result page.
Hackers and fraudsters use different tricks to make people fall into their trap. When people do something and fall into their trap, hackers get access and hack computers, different accounts, and wallets to steal crypto assets and money.
Recently an NFT influencer lost a life-changing amount of net worth falling into hackers' trap. It started with downloading an open-source video streaming software OBS. He downloaded the software from the sponsored ads.
You may not see the difference looking at the website, it looks exactly like the official website. But when you download the software, malware downloads on your computer. You may not see anything unusual unless you notice some unusual activity.
In this case, hackers got access to the NFT influencer's computer and hacked all accounts tied to his name, Google, social media, Discord, Twitter, and Substack. Hackers also sent phishing links to 16K subscribers on Substack. The victim noticed phishing tweets on his Twitter accounts and realized what went wrong. But it was too late.
It is sad to see something like that. As a result of this hack, he lost at least 19 ETH, a Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFT, and other NFTs. You cannot reverse the transaction on the blockchain. Once the hackers steal your crypto assets, it's gone. This is terrible.
It can happen to anyone and one single mistake causes all this loss. Do you remember about BitKeep Wallet exploits and hacks? I searched about the wallet on Google at that time and saw ads that were not from the official website. Unfortunately, hackers show malicious ads. You think that's the official website, so when you download any software from the website, that software works fine.
But hackers get access to your computer and all accounts to steal your crypto and NFTs. Be careful before clicking any ads. That could be malicious ads spreading malware. Using an anti-virus can protect you to some extent, so update your anti-virus.
Hackers and scammers use different tactics to lure people to fall into their traps. Be aware of what's going on and stay up-to-date. Keep your crypto assets safe and secure.
