I just finished watching the Netflix series "Sweet Tooth" last night. And all I can say is, wow! It's a work of fiction and fantasy but is super related to the breakout of a virus that we're experiencing today.

To give you a quick background, the story circled on a kid named Gus who is part-human, part-deer. In this series, Gus is called a hybrid. Ten years ago, a virus emerged together with the birth of hybrids. They called this time "The Great Crumble". For ten years, Gus was secluded in Yellowstone National Park with his Pubba to protect him from bad men who fear and hunt hybrids like him. After his Pubba died, he met and became friends with Jepperd aka Big Man, and together, they set out on a journey (or an adventure) to find Gus' mom in Colorado.

Season 1 only has 8 episodes, each episode lasts for about an hour. Season 1 circled on Gus being hopeful to find the truth about him, meet his "Mom", and knowing what friendship is by forming a relationship with Big Man and Bear. You should definitely watch it, and you'll tell me that you want to know more after the first season.

Now, after being amazed by this brilliant work of art, I would like to share with you a few things that I've learned from the series.

Nature knows best.

Mother Nature sure knows how to turn her world upside down. You may agree or disagree, but I can say that there is a high tendency for people to become greedy, selfish, only wanting things for themselves, which in turn, neglects other people or neglects the environment. Nature can become good or cruel, depending on what or when she wants to be. I also liked the fact that this post-apocalyptic scenario is not the same as others as this shows how Mother Nature has taken over its course through the lush green forests and terrain, the beautiful flowers that bloom, the emergence of animals or you know, hybrids.

Friends are the family we choose.

A connection can be formed between or among persons who are not related to each other by blood. Of course, you may say that blood is thicker than water, and I agree. However, water is also a necessity. The friends that choose to be with you in whatever season of your life are the types of friends that you can call your family. SPOILER ALERT: Gus may not have a real family, but he has found one with Big Man and Bear, the two people who are willing to protect him, whatever the cost is.

Hope is a gift of tomorrow.

Gus is innocent and vulnerable. This innocence and vulnerability make you want to hug him and tell him that everything's gonna be alright. He is an epitome of hope as his character, though young and inexperienced, seem to have bold decisions about what he wanted to do and achieve, whatever it takes. He wanted to search for his mom, not knowing about anything outside the fence, but he still pursued and actually made friends along the way - friends who would later become family.

A mistake can become a lesson.

People make mistakes all the time, but reflecting on them, trying to improve, and not do the same mistake again becomes a lesson. Sometimes people decide to do stupid things due to their cloudy emotions, or even due to fear. Big Man seems to be someone who is proud of himself, being a huge American football star in his time before The Great Crumble. In the later episodes, it was shown how fear had consumed him when he saw that his baby was also a hybrid, leading him to run away... yet, he came back, only to find out that his wife and child are nowhere to be found. It was still unclear though why he became part of the Last Men (those who kill hybrids). But being with Gus, it became clear to him that running away from his family during the most difficult times is not a good act to do. Being with Gus shows how he has learned to stay put and become a responsible friend/family.

I am recommending you to watch Sweet Tooth because you will be amazed at how this fantasy drama becomes an adventure of a lifetime. The cinematography is superb, too. So, catch it and wait for the coming seasons to come.

Thank you for reading!
