One of the most common desserts in Venezuelan culture is Arroz con leche. Even though it is a daily dessert in other cultures, it is considered part of the culture of this Caribbean country. Consumed mainly during the festivities of Easter, it is very pleasant and exquisite.
Ingredients
1/2 cup uncooked white rice
1 cup of water
3 1/2 cups milk
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon salt
ground cinnamon, for garnish
lemon zest
Instructions
Cook the rice by adding a cup of water.
Boil for 7 minutes, until the rice softens and the water is almost absorbed.
Add milk, cinnamon sticks, and grated lemon peel.
Simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.
Remove the cinnamon sticks.
Add sugar and salt and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until the pudding is creamy and the rice is smooth.
Remove from heat and refrigerate until cold.
To serve, sprinkle the cinnamon rice.
