Discovered by Humboldt and Bonpland in the year 1800 during their expedition to the Orinoco, the Orinoco Superba (Cattleya violacea) is a species of orchid endemic to the Orinoco basin. This jewel of the neotropical flora is distributed up to 600m of altitude and is the cousin of some twenty species associated with the genus, including our national flower - Flor de Mayo (Cattleya mossiae).

The Orinoco superba is endangered by collecting and collecting it in the wild, assuming that the lack of knowledge and the desire to control certain organisms considerably increases the loss of biodiversity, to the point of disappearing one or hundreds of species .
