The Angel Falls (Kerepakupai Vená in Pemón, which means "waterfall from the deepest place") is the highest waterfall in the world, with a height of 979 m (807 m of uninterrupted fall), originating in the Auyantepuy. It is located in the Canaima National Park, Bolívar, Venezuela; a protected natural space, established as a national park on June 12, 1962 and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1994 that extends over an area of more than 30,000 km² (similar to the territorial extension of Belgium), until the border with Brazil and the territory of the Essequibo (currently in claim)
There are two ways to see Angel Falls. One of them is from the air, by plane and the other is on an excursion that departs from the Ucaima port in Canaima, and that lasts more than 3 hours sailing on the Carrao river and then on the Churún. From the Churún river, to the Salto Ángel viewpoint, you must walk approximately an hour through the jungle.
The Angel Falls have that name, in honor of the man who discovered it in 1937, the American adventurer and aviator Jimmy Angel. However, the indigenous people of the area, the Pemones, already knew him previously and had baptized him as Churún Merú.
This mosaic of nature is a living testimony to the geographical history of our planet.
This is the oldest corner of the planet that is two billion years old (2 billion). Time and nature make this place something special and its visitors feel like another world. This unique place gives you the opportunity to integrate with nature in a direct and real way. Ecotourism par excellence offers a world to discover.
With the arrival of the new century, Angel Falls became one of the finalists in the election of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, although it was finally left off the official list.
