Scrapings is traditional way to treat colds
Weather that is often erratic in last few days makes body vulnerable to disease, one of which is colds. This can make body feel uncomfortable, so it requires prompt treatment in order to return to activities.
One of treatments that can be done when someone has a cold is scrapings. Many people believe that scrapings are a powerful way to get body back in shape for activities next day.
Scraping is a traditional treatment originating from Java and using a blunt object usually using a coin or a spoon that is rubbed against surface of skin. This will leave a red mark and follow pattern of ribs in back or bones in chest. This method is believed to eliminate colds.
It turns out that this technique is same as traditional medicine originating from East Asia such as China, namely Gua Sha. This method is generally used to treat muscle aches and body tension. Gua sha also uses a blunt object that is rubbed against body, resulting in small bruises or a red color on skin scraped with a blunt object.
This method can help destroy scar tissue and connective tissue, as well as improve joint mobility. In addition, this method does not cause serious side effects. However, someone who has certain medical conditions is not allowed to get this treatment.
Is scraping really effective in getting rid of colds?
It is said that method by rubbing a blunt object on body can drastically increase levels of beta endorphins. This is because pituitary gland is active in keratinocyte cells and capillary endothelial cells. The impact is that body produces endorphins which are natural morphines in body, thus making body fresh again.
Scrapings have also been shown to be effective in suppressing prostaglandin levels in body. Content of prostaglandins is a fatty compound which is result of fatty acids by enzymatic processes. This substance makes body feel pain, and when it decreases, body will feel more refreshed.
Scrapings can also dilate blood vessels in body. When this happens, blood cells and oxygen will be easier to circulate smoothly to be distributed throughout body. Therefore, all organs get an adequate supply of oxygen and blood.
In order to avoid side effects when doing scrapings, here are some tips that you should pay attention to:
Make sure coin or tool used for scraping has been cleaned, at least with soap and running water.
Use olive oil or lotion to make scraping easier and reduce injury.
Avoid pressing too hard when scraping so that there are no scratches that result in injury to skin.
Pay attention to pain limit of person being scraped.
That's traditional way from my area to deal with when body feels less fit, only with scrapings usually body will feel fresh again next day. Maybe you can try this method to be more economical because you don't have to visit a doctor, but still pay attention to your safety!
