Overview

Taking advantage of a well-deserved military retirement, the former agent Jack Carver has set up his own business and now offers a fee, to help local tourists discover the most beautiful islands in the region. Without sinking in, the greenbacks arrive regularly enough that Jack gradually forgets his tumultuous past in the Navy. All this until the day when over-armed mercenaries target his boat, and the tour ends by swimming away to the nearest island. It is on these broad outlines that starts the game, which will lead Jack to survive at all costs before finding himself subject to a mad scientist's experiments.

Gameplay

Far Cry Instincts Predator is a nice FPS but unfortunately a bit too frustrating. Poorly managed difficulty and even worse when you consider that AI flaws are always present. The enemies' behaviour is quite ordinary, but sometimes they come out with suspicious headshots. Mainly since the Far Cry Instincts Predator saves system is somewhat archaic with endless checkpoints. A system certainly used in other FPSs but which doesn't work as well here.

Regarding the handling, Far Cry Instincts Predator proves to be less docile than a Quake 4 or a Call of Duty 2. The fault lies with a viewfinder and a sensitivity finally not as precise as they should be. The drawback is also to the difficulty of performing specific actions such as pressing the left analogue stick to crouch or lie down. It is also challenging to try to play it with finesse using the traps that Jack can set because of the AI's ability to spot you quickly. Thus, the gameplay becomes quite tricky, and you often have to hang on to avoid being surprised by the treacherous appearance of enemies in places that you thought were clean.

Graphics & Sound

Let's be frank from the start; there are indeed water effects and resolution that change compared to the title released original Xbox. The level design of the whole remains pleasant, and it's a pleasure to walk through the local jungle in Instincts or Evolution. Still, PC gamers will notice that the feeling of freedom that reigned on their version has disappeared here.

As for the soundtrack, no significant problems to report, the music goes well with the menus and the action throughout the two adventures.

Conclusion

We didn't expect so much from this Far Cry Instincts Predator, and Ubisoft Montreal's title makes it quite right. Without being the FPS of the century, or even the FPS of the year, here is a title that will quickly satisfy fans of the genre, as long as they have never played the game on PC or the original Xbox.
