STOICISM is a philosophical current founded by the philosopher Zeno de Citio. The Stoics thought in the following way:
"External events such as the weather, the character of another person, misfortunes etc... do not depend directly on our control. then, we must control what we think of those events"
Things that are under our control and things that are NOT under our control :
There are definitely things that we cannot control and others that we can, period. The point is to be able to control what we DO control, such as our emotions, our words, our reactions to external events. So, is there anything that can be called HAPPINESS? We know from scientific evidence that there are hormones that directly influence our character so that a certain biochemical state of the organism could be described as HAPPINESS, if someone wants to call it that. Serotonin, Oxcitocin, Dopamine, just to name a few, produce certain sensations such as pleasure, serenity, pleasure, etc...
How can we control our emotions if they also depend on a biochemical balance?
Of course there are mitigating factors and there are people who have strong psychiatric or psychological disorders who are not able to control their reactions and emotions, as those philosophers tell us. But they are not the majority. Now, assuming that we are people with average health, we will always have the option of rationalizing what happens to us.
ASCENDING ACTIVATING RETICULAR SYSTEM
(SRAA) The ascending activating reticular system is located in the brainstem and serves to maintain the state of alertness but also functions as a FILTER of the information we perceive. One of the fundamental stages of how we perceive reality is the INTERPRETATION of that external information, and the good news is that if we make a conscious interpretation of the information that reaches us we can positively influence our emotions and our reactions. Then that SRRA or filter is going to work according to a previous interpretation of the facts. So it does make sense what the stromalists tell us after all (You can always choose how an external event affects you).
CONCLUSION
This topic is more than trite lately but it is not for less. Even the WHO warned about how mental health worldwide has been affected after suffering the latest variants of covid-19. On a personal level I am dealing with these problems because anxiety became an issue that began to affect me at a physiological level and I can say that this consequence has a lot to do with how I interpret the information from my environment and also for taking my work too much to heart (stress). Therefore, I have dedicated myself to investigate a little about it and I wanted to share a little about my opinion on the subject. Don't act tough, there are professionals out there willing to help. And above all, we should take the first step if we are experiencing very intense emotional difficulties.
