One.Surgery update (8 days since Flipstarter complete)

It has been just over eight days since One.Surgery successfully completed its Flipstarter campaign, launching an exciting new opportunity to develop with the Bitcoin Cash community. We are still buzzing from it all, but since that happy success, we have not stopped working to achieve our objectives of safer surgery across the world. Eight days may seem a short time, but in surgery, every second counts and we have not rested! Using the momentum given to us by our BCH donations, in 8 days, here is what we have been up to:

1. A Bitcoin cash salary

We have created our first ever part time position for employment with One.Surgery ($10USD/hour in BCH), fully funded for a year - to support with our research projects and further promote our work globally. It may be a small start with low monthly hours, but we feel the hourly rate is competitive for the global marketplace, and we see it as an important aspect of our organisation's growth to develop a BCH global network - where we pay new users across the world in BCH.

We hope employment will commence in early 2021. The salary will be paid only in Bitcoin Cash, therefore helping to redistribute Bitcoin Cash from employer to employee and stimulate a mini BCH economy within our organisation. However, to stabilise against cryprocurrency volatility, (and ensure the employee's one year salary is earmarked and their earnings are protected), the salary for 12 months has been successfully converted to USDT on the BCH network, using the bitcoin.com wallet. We feel this is the best ethical approach to ensuring staff salaries are secured within the volatile crypto climate and we can guarantee funds. We will incrementally convert back to BCH for the monthly payments.

2. Launching an audiogram service

To further enhance our research commitment in the field of global surgery, we have launched a free audiogram service, allowing authors of research to create audiograms of their scientific work for community distribution. Establishing this service will help enhance our research portfolio and outreach to the community, as we gear up to create our own journal in 2021 (low cost, high quality, peer review, powered by BCH!)

3. Research journal: community outreach and consensus

Our Flipstarter project was focussed on creating a paradigm-changing publication model for medical research. We have now slowly started building consensus within the global surgery community with the aim of developing a world class editorial board. We know building consensus will take time but we are gently approaching the community with our "crypto-powered" journal concept with further outreach planned in early 2021.

4. Global surgery education

One.Surgery has continued to develop its free educational platform, and we will soon be launching 2 open access educational courses on rural urology practice, and microsurgery. These courses, although not directly connected to Bitcoin Cash projects currently, will help expand surgical knowledge across the world from inspirational teachers to students across the world. We are sure this growing global network will help enhance our other services.

5. Launching Bitcoin Cash Fashion

One.Surgery is really excited to soon launch our online e-commerce shop. To celebrate our collaboration with BCH, we have designed some unique and very cool Bitcoin Cash merchandise! The concept is very simple: Our merchandise promotes Bitcoin Cash, and we accept payments in Bitcoin Cash (this is the only crypto we will accept). With the sales of the BCH merchandise, we will re-invest all the profits back into our global projects, including BCH salaries for our staff, and other One.Surgery BCH projects.

We aim to be the first organisation that promotes BCH,  earns in BCH, pays in BCH and grows in BCH! Launching in the next few days!

Bitcoin fashion - coming soon!

6.  Online BCH ledger

As our commitment to honest accounting and transparency, we continue to maintain our online BCH ledger, annotating each blockchain transaction in our wallet. This, we hope, help builds a trust and rapport with the BCH community as we slowly grow.

7. Flipstarter Perks

We have not forgotten about the perks we promised to all pledgers in our Flipstarter campaign (we just have been rather busy with the above!) We will try to contact all pledgers in early 2021 to honour our perk promises - but if you did pledge, and want to reach out, please e-mail admin@one.surgery and we can get the perk sorted!

8. The challenge ahead!

2021 promises to be a critical year for One.Surgery and Bitcoin Cash! We not only want BCH to succeed, but we truly feel for our global mission's success, we really need Bitcoin Cash to succeed! For that, we are forever grateful that the BCH community is with us on this journey of learning and expanding.

Previously, we did not accept ad-hoc donations, but given the challenges ahead, we would be very happy to take additional BCH donations or develop partnerships within the BCH ecosystem. Again, all transactions will be clearly trascribed on our ledger. For any enquiries, please contact admin@one.surgery, and for now, we will quietly leave our wallet's QR code here!

Happy holidays to all!

I don't understand. Is the salary paid in BCH or USDT?

The salary will be paid in BCH. But we are offering a 12 month contract, and given the overall volatility of the crypto sphere, we are holding that salary in USDT. When it comes to monthly payments, we convert the relevant amount to BCH to pay.

This ensures, as an organisation, those funds specifically earmarked for salary are as least volatile as possible. If in the unlikely instance, BCH collapses in 2021, the USDT reserve for the salary ensures our employee still has their income reserved in the event of a collapse. We dont want to hire someone and undergo a crypto collapse and we cant honour the contract.

It is ofcourse unlikely and perhaps the wrong approach but whilst the crypto world settles for stability, we dont want someone employed with us fretting about whether their salary is secured if there is a bear run.

Thank you for the clarification. It is a reasonable approach. I know people who hold half in BCH and half in USDT to minimise the risk of volatility and benefit from BCH price increases.

Thank you. One.Surgery itself is happy to hold and invest in BCH, as its the tech and community we wish to embrace. But when livelihoods may depend on us, we want to ensure they are cared for and not subject to crypto volatility if we have earmarked funds for them.

The employee will receive BCH. They will be able to choose what they do with it - convert it to local currency via their own marketplaces, convert to USDT, keep it as BCH. It's up to them but we firmly believe the currency you earn in is the currency you cherish.

Can One.Surgery be open to Midwives too? Or only Surgeons..

Thank you. Surgery is a multidisciplinary service, not just surgeons but allied healthcare professionals, technicians, industry, IT experts and most importantly, patients, all working together to improve services. Midwifes, obstetrics and maternal care are a critical component of surgical services, particularly with access to surgery in relation to childbirth. So we are all connected and all One.
