One.Surgery Journal pilots a Bitcoin Cash partnership with the Childrens Surgical Centre in Cambodia

One.Surgery is now just a few short weeks away from launching our beta release of the most innovative peer review scientific publishing model in a generation! Our unique model is powered by Bitcoin Cash, providing an ethical, community-centred, sustainable journal that will be truly globally accessible (read more about this here).

The journal is packed with new, amazing features, including the concept of paying stipends (in Bitcoin Cash) to our peer reviewers for their critical work in analysing and critiquing essential research work (note: the current multi-billion dollar publishing industry does not routinely offer stipends for such work).

To build on this feature, we are also offering the option for peer reviewers to donate their Bitcoin Cash to surgical charities working in low and middle income countries instead (as peer reviewers may not wish to claim their well deserved stipend for personal or professional reasons). Our charity partners, in order to receive the stipend, must accept Bitcoin Cash payments, and publicly display their BCH wallet address on their website, in order that we can transparently prove they are receiving our donations on the blockchain.

To this end, the Journal is announcing its first official charity partner: The Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) in Cambodia. After 30 years of war and genocide by the Pol Pot regime, Dr. Jim Gollogly started the CSC in 1998 as a small project to help victims of landmine injuries, many of whom were children. Since then, it has grown into what it is today, a bustling charity hospital that provides wonderful surgical care for the impoverished throughout the country. CSC aims to improve the quality of life for disabled poor people by providing free rehabilitation surgery. Integral to this mission is a program of training local surgeons and health workers, focusing on the development of sustainable surgical services for Cambodians.

Established for over 20 years, for the first time, the CSC now accepts Bitcoin Cash donations and demonstrates the potential outreach our global surgery journal can bring to the BCH ecosystem! (Their BCH address published officially on their website here).
