One of the biggest trait a man should have is respect. It is the root of all the goodness and peacefulness in life. As the saying goes, respect begets respect. Give respect and you will receive respect.
Richard Branson said that respect is how to treat everyone. Remember the golden rule? Do not do unto others what you don't want others do unto you. It might be too old but it will never rust. If you don't want others disrespect you, don't disrespect them too. It might not be simple, but it's doable - that's for sure.
Ever since the day we gain our consciousness and the ability to understand, we are taught to pay respect especially to elders the word respect. Our parents and family are the first ones to enlighten us about One way of showing respect here in the Philippines is by saying "po" and "opo" to the person who's older than you. We also have "pagmamano sa nakakatanda" and as a return, they will said "salamat" or "Godbless you". It was customary ever since, that it became our natural way of approaching the elders.
Respect comes with different meaning depending on what we are trying to portray. It maybe our way on treating others or the way we see them.
WHAT IS RESPECT?
Respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone. If you respect your teacher, you admire her and treat her well.

There will always be a time in our life when we tend to idolize people, whether it's a celebrity, a professional, or a hero. As we idolize them, we are starting to show our respect towards them. It maybe because you have the same passion, dream or even hobby.
For an example, I really idolize Sarah Geronimo and I highly respect her when it comes to music. We both have the same passion and I want to be like her someday. Not only Sarah, but also all the Filipino artists who shares unending music in our society.
We give respect because we think of them as high or above us. Sometimes, we settle for being just their fan and look them from afar, and respect. Being respected is one of the best feeling we might ever feel because we know that we are appreciated and loved.

One of the most famous quote of Einstein, "I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university". Respect chooses no one. You should be respected because it's your right and you deserve it.
I have this short real-life story that really melted my heart. This was way back 2019 when the pandemic is not yet here. I was so hurry to go to school because I will have a class at 9am and the time was already 8:30. I usually spend 15-20 mins in tricycle before I reach our school. The driver of the tricycle I hopped in was around 55-60 years old already, but he is still strong and kicking.
I was so busy with my phone that time because I am reviewing my files for an upcoming exam. After about 3 mins of driving, the tricycle driver suddenly stopped. I thought there is just another passenger so I didn't bother to take a look. A minute has passed but the tricycle is not yet moving. So I checked out the situation. And what I saw made my day.
The driver made a pull-over along the way to help an old man cross the street. I was so ashamed that day because I felt a little annoyed when the driver was too slow. It really made my day. I didn't even have the chance to take picture because I've noticed it too late. I even shared and posted this story in my social media and lots of netizens were also amazed. See how giving respect works?
The respect that the driver have made him do the greatest thing he could ever do.
Like the quote of Einstein, respect doesn't need to choose between two persons - whether you're a garbage man or the president of a university. Status is not the door to respect. Even the poorest of the poor deserves respect.
Note: We might come to a situation where we don't know anymore what respect is, but remember yourself being treated the way you will treat others - you will be enlightened.
