WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO STUDY THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY?

Technology, knowledge and science are fundamental in modern contemporary society. The understanding of how social, cultural and material elements influence the production of new practices, new ways of understanding and new institutions is vital in our understanding of contemporary postmodern society. Studies of technology and science provides students with insight into how different processes of knowledge are initiated and progressed, and how innovative technological processes are developed, employed and increase in importance.

Studies of technology and science gives insight into the understanding and knowledge of technology, science and knowledge from the viewpoint of the humanities and the social sciences. Throughout the course of study students will become familiar with amendments of social and cultural analyses of modern science and technology in interaction with social, political, economic and cultural processes of change.

In this manner, students will be provided with the academic basis for working with detailed analyses of different forms of technologies and processes of knowledge, within business life/industry and commerce, research and research-related work, political development, management of knowledge and innovation.

WHAT IS THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO THE SOCIETY?

Science and technology have had a major impact on society, and their impact is growing. By drastically changing our means of communication, the way we work, our housing, clothes, and food, our methods of transportation, and, indeed, even the length and quality of life itself, science has generated changes in the moral values and basic philosophies of mankind.

WHAT PUSHES PEOPLE TO INVENT DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES?

According to the well-known saying, "necessity is the mother of invention"; in other words, people invent things because society has difficult problems that need solving. We are now living in a modern world, thanks to the inventors who made this possible. We live differently among others. We have our own necessities which sometimes triggers us to create something new that will help us in our daily living.

I will share to you something that I "MIGHT" invent in the future. Hahahaha (Char) Well, there's no harm in trying and dreaming.

I will invent a new version of a typical contact lens. We know that Like eyeglasses, contact lenses help to correct refractive errors and perform this function by adding or subtracting focusing power to the eye's cornea and lens. However, my new invention has some added features such as the photographic/pictographic memory. It allows the system to store data that have photograph by the lenses, like what’s our mind when we talk about photographic memory.

This will help those who have a difficulty remembering things. This may be a cheat especially for students, but why not try it in the future?

Just like what I said, it is similar to the typical contact lenses, but also similar to some people who have special ability to photograph information just by their naked eyes. However, this is different because we use now technology in order to achieve this kind of system. I don’t know if there is a possible way for people to have a pictographic memory using some operations or treatments.

I think there is a high need for this invention and YES! This will make the world a better place to live in. We may think that some people may took advantage of this invention, like they can use this in a bad way. But come to think of it, if everyone has the ability to remember things, then the probability of improving our world will increase as the contributors will also increase.
