Your & You're
We're here today to kind of spread awareness about the misuse of these 2 word's and how people tend to mix them up. It's a super common mistake that plenty of people make without even noticing their doing it.
A bonus topic I would also like to discuss is the words There, Their, and They're.. These are also common word's that people tend to mess up again without even noticing it, and it's not their fault that no one has corrected them. We don't know we're doing something wrong until someone or something else show's us what we're doing wrong.
So on to the first discussion which is about the words Your and You're.
Your
The word Your is what you would call a possessive pronoun. The meaning that is applied with this word is 'belonging to or associated with the person or people that the speaker is addressing'.
In an example, "Your eye's are reading my article" Its a word that addresses another persons things or objects.
Another example "Your hair, your clothes, your hat, your shoes, all of your belongings, and your name, I must address you as your majesty"
You're
The word You're is what you would call a contraction which is 2 words unified as one. The 2 word's that are being conjoined with this one word is You and Are. It's adding the two together making the A silent. The word means to be addressing something about someone or addressing their action or an action they can do.
For example "You're going to the store later to get some milk" in this example we're addressing the action they can do.
Another example is " You're old, you're stinky, you're slow" in this example we're addressing something about someone.
Both word's being used in an example "You're going to break Your back if you lift that"
As you can see both word's sound completely the same, and if you're in mid conversation actually physically speaking you wouldn't notice the difference at all. In a different situation where as you're talking to someone on a messenger type platform or you're writing an essay/article then you're going to notice the difference between someone using your and you're.. In my opinion what make's these word's so easily misused is the A is silent in the You Are (You're) causing people to use Your in both situation's.
Their, They're, and There
These 3 word's are another set of word's that are commonly misused in the world everyday, and we're going to discuss each word's meaning so that people who haven't had the opportunity to learn can now know.
Their
The word Their means to address a person and or person's belongings.
For example "Their shoe's are in the way" in this example we're addressing the person's belonging.
Another example "Their slow, I don't like working with them because they like to take Their time doing everything" in this example we're addressing a quality of a person.
By using the word Their we know we're addressing a specific person or person's thing's.
They're
The word They're is another contraction word, which is the 2 words They and Are combined together to make this one word. This word is used in addressing a persons actions.
For example "They're coming but They're going to be late" in this example we're addressing the action's that the person we're talking about is doing.
There
The word There is describing a place, or direction.
For example "The sun rises over There and sets over here" in this example we're describing a direction/place.
Another example is "There! We will find the gold There!"
All 3 words being used in an example "They're going to drop Their coal down over There"
Again these word's are impossible to mess up if your having an actual verbal conversation with someone. This is more of for situation's where you have to type or write these words and be able to use them in the proper manner.
