The theft of 18 important documents from the Ministry of Health became widely known after the ministry filed a general diary (GD) with the Shahbagh police station in the capital on October 28. The number and subject matter of 18 documents were mentioned in the GD. Among them were: Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College, Rajshahi Medical College and several other medical colleges including multiple purchase documents, purchase of Niport, training school vehicle allocation and purchase documents. In addition, documents of several projects of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Department of Health Education were lost.
Year after year, irregularities and corruption in shopping have been happening in the Ministry of Health. So in the case of theft of purchase documents from the ministry, many felt that such an incident could not have happened without a conspiracy. The Ministry of Health formed a four-member investigation committee. As per the recommendation of the committee, the Ministry of Health temporarily dismissed four employees. But the ministry did not say why the documents were stolen or disappeared.
Public health expert Abu Jamil Faisal told Prothom Alo that there is a lack of accountability in almost all cases. Many things are out of control. The health sector or the Ministry of Health is no exception, in some cases perhaps more. In the new year, the health sector will come out of irregularities, corruption, mismanagement, it is not expected.
