This is an updated Top 25 ranking for cryptocurrency coins by Moola News. Includes brief commentary for each coin. This is NOT intended as financial advice. This is posted for informational and educational purposes. If you buy or sell any cryptocurrency, consult professionals and do your own research, do not rely on this ranking.

Here it is (with symbol and market cap in parenthesis, in billions of US dollars). Lot's of research by Moola News goes into making a list that can hold up to criticism (email here (moolanews @ mail.com). Top 25 Cryptocurrencies (ranked 4/29/2021)

  1. Binance (BNB) ($91.6B) - professional traders/market makers have a benefit to holding this coin; Binance also has upside as far as 'project-related' aspects of the coin re the "Binance Smart Chain."

  2. Ethereum (ETH) ($321.1B)- until proven otherwise, the biggest banks and insiders are backing the Ethereum project. There are cracks in the facade (such as Polkadot was started up as a hedge in case ETH doesn't work out).

  3. Solana (SOL) ($11.9B)- big-time project behind a lot of the blockchain; backed by major corporations including Google.

  4. Cardano (ADA) ($43.6B)- has already experienced a pretty good pop higher but seems solid given the potential to be an ETH replacement

  5. Dash (DASH) ($2.9B)- sometimes this seems like it just may end up as more of a stablecoin and not have huge upside. However, there are a fixed number of coins. And their App seems quite compelling and catching on the most with millenials.

  6. Bitcoin (BTC) ($1,002.3B) - this is the cash funnel to fuel a rise in all the other coin projects. This is the door in for all people, especially institutional investors. Downside is it can be seen as a bit of a legacy project especially re energy consumption. BTC remains the entry into a lot of other coins though consider diversifying this play into BSV, BCH, wBTC.

  7. Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) ($2.4B)- this one they are maybe still working out some kinks but there is substantial corporate/government backing and to sum it up this is a way faster/more efficient version of Bitcoin.

  8. Tron (TRON) ($8.7B)- there are a lot of (what could be called) Ethereum competitors (such as Cardano, etc). Tron is one of them. And you may want to dab a toe in the water here, given the action steps Tron has been making-- including BitTorrent (BTT) and Steem.

  9. Polygon (MATIC) ($5.6B)- Matic just rebranded as polygon: wrapping around Ethereum 2.0 to keep improving its scalability. Self-declared "'Polkadot on Ethereum'" here. That's a pretty mint quote.

  10. NEO (NEO) ($6.3B)- to the extent China may lead the world in coming decades, NEO seems well positioned as, perhaps, better than Ethereum in a lot of ways. NEO could be subject to odd volatility but seems to have some significant upside based on TPS and developer freedoms.

  11. Syscoin (SYS) ($0.3B)- in a similar line as Hedera; and this is a max coin.

  12. Decred (DCR) ($2.7B)- this one has been moving up quite a bit already in last couple months, but seems their governance system in particular might attract long-term support. And really its possible to see this as just at the very start of breaking out. Especially re the market cap.

  13. Decentraland (MANA) ($1.9B)- has run up a bit. And... the current game platform seems it needs to be overhauled and rebuilt and not sure if that is possible. Upside remains the alliances and seems well-backed to be 'the one' so far as virtual games... for a worldwide audience.

  14. Litecoin (LTC) ($17.0B)- long-term since the maximum coin number is set, and it aligns with the Bitcoin orbit, and because its been around a long-time and has institutional uptake.

  15. Basic Attention Token (BAT) ($1.8B)- busted out of a long-time range in a big way in recent months. Fundamentals still look good with the Brave browser and its crypto/privacy focus potential to catch on.

  16. Storj (STORJ) ($0.3B)- there is a bit of competition in the cloud storage space; for example, Filecoin may be a better fit for this spot, or Siacoin; for now we like this one.

  17. Cosmos (ATOM) ($5.3B)- helps to scale and interconnect blockchains.

  18. Aave (AAVE) ($5.5B)- financial liquidity protocol enabling interest rates and truer debt/bank type utilization of all blockchains/coins. There are others in this general realm.

  19. The Graph (GRT) ($1.9B)- API building block for lots of major projects. Substitute the Ankr protocol (ANKR) as related to this Web3 type space.

  20. Golem (GLM) ($0.4B)- a "decentralized marketplace for computing power." Need more computing power? Tap into Golem, originally billed as a supercomputer that anyone could use. Seems interest should build to hold tokens for access.

  21. Ren (REN) ($0.7B)- when you hear about "wrapped Bitcoin" and such. Well, the underlying technology is Ren.

  22. MIOTA (IOTA) ($5.9B)- has big potential surrounding the 'internet of things' focus. Kind of a first mover in the space so there for the taking if they execute properly. The internet of things is a space to be involved in. There are likely to be a lot of different players that will succeed in various segments of 'things'.

  23. Band Protocol (BAND) ($0.5B)- cross-chain oracle platforms (Chainlink is similar in a way and you could look at Chainlink for this spot) have lots of potential.

  24. Stellar (XLM) ($11.3B)- potential to see very large flows into Stellar from institutions. It would be better if there was any ecosystem developing around Stellar but Dapp development seems very weak so far.

  25. EOS (EOS) ($5.6B)- has yet to find its stride but has a little bit of an 'it factor' with lots of potential to be a Chinese version of Ethereum.

Off the list from our last posting: Dogecoin it has run up a bit now. Monero is off the board as Decred is there but this is a space to hold. Wanted to have Uniswap in there with all its potential to be the decentralized coin exchange on the internet but its run up a little. There are coins that we like (such as Chainlink) that we just might see as being fully valued at the moment and/or where other coins from a risk/reward standpoint might have more potential from this particular moment. Bancor is off but still looks good. Ardor is off as SYS and HBAR are still on but still like ARDR.

Keep in mind. There are new cryptocurrency and blockchain projects that haven't even been released yet. Some of these projects could potentially easily leap way over any of the names today that we all consider golden. Consider the Top 10 coins of 5-10 years ago included Namecoin, Peercoin, Feathercoin, Nxt, Quark, Primecoin etc. So tread carefully. How often will this Top 25 coins list be updated? Cryptocurrencies are VERY risky. Spreading out a little money into several/many different coins helps you diversify and handle fluctuations better. Never buy cryptocurrency with money you will need.
