Days ago it was Christmas and here in Venezuela it is customary to make traditional meals of the time to share with the family. I decided to make the hallaca for dinner on the twenty-fourth and thirty-first.
The ingredients for the hallaca are many, you cannot miss the olives, raisins, capers, proteins, vegetables and onion, paprika, garlic and sweet pepper and others. The sweet pepper is a special dressing, it gives a particular flavor to the food, so I told my husband to buy it for me.
I had the collaboration of my mother to make the food, being all the ingredients at home, she proceeded to cook the proteins separately. Then in another pot the vegetables such as carrots and potatoes.
We proceeded to chop the onion, garlic joint, sweet pepper, then I realized that it was biting, my five-year-old daughter had touched the pepper. It was lunchtime and I fed my two daughters, left them eating soup and continued with my mother preparing food.
After a while my five-year-old daughter arrives crying with reddened hands, I ask her what happened? To which she replies that it hurts, and she continues to cry. To my mind came was the soup that had burned her.
She had feelings of guilt, my husband worried, he told me that he should be more careful with girls. My mother and a cousin of my husband who was with us at home, suggested that we apply toothpaste and I did, I did not see any improvement.
Look for aloe, remove the shell and remove the crystals from it and put them on her hands, the swelling, redness, or pain did not disappear either. She grabbed her hands and dipped them in cold water and she felt a slight relief, but she continued crying.
I was already going to the hospital and it occurred to me to call an aunt, I told her what was happening to me, that the girl had left her eating soup and later she comes crying with her reddened hands, I also told her that I take the hot pepper. When I said that to my aunt, she told me that the girl, she had had an allergic reaction, that she should buy a pediatric antihistamine, and give her a small spoonful to drink, I gave it to her and my daughter got better with the medicine.
Hours later I called my aunt and thanked her. After a few days I inquired about what an allergy is, and I was able to learn that an unexpected reaction occurs in our body, either by touching and consuming food and the effect was immediate and exaggerated.
The allergy that my daughter suffered was cutaneous due to the symptoms that she named above. Do not take her to the doctor, I was wrong, because there was self-medication and that is not good to do, since it can trigger other problems.
Thank God, my daughter is fine, the publication is for informational purposes so be careful with the hot pepper allergy. If something similar happens to them, go to the doctor.
