The Godfather is not just a gangster saga, it’s a layered story of power, family and capitalism.
There are 14 lessons learned from the movie Godfather:
1. Don’t make promises if you know you can’t fulfill that promise Your word is the most important thing you can offer. It’s perfectly okay to say “no” to your request (unless it’s on the day your daughter gets married).
2. Don’t interfere with other people’s life Especially do not interfere with the life of a married couple. When Connie and Carlo had a feud at the table, Soni tried to intervene, but was silenced by Mrs. Corleone’s “Soni, don’t interfere” – Carmela Corleone.
3. Family is the most important thing in life Blood is denser than water. “A man who does not spend time with his family can never become a real man” and “The only riches in this world are children, more important than all money or power on earth” – Don Vito Corleone.
4. Never do anything against your family Don’t be like Fredo Corleone. No matter how much you don’t love your family, they are your family. Out of respect, never go against your own blood. “Fredo, you are my older brother, and I love you. But never go against your family. Never.” – Michael Corleone.
5. Never react while you are emotional Emotional outbursts, such as those of Santino “Soni” Corleone, brought him to the bottom. “Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment.” – Michael Corleone.
6. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Always keep an eye on your enemies with one eye. Keep good relationships. Especially in public. When Senator Pat was intimidated by Michael Corleone, he simply replied, “My offer is this … nothing.” He kept the senator in his circle and eventually held him in his hand.
7. Make friendships out of respect, business and trust You can’t choose a family, but you can choose friends. ” Friendship is more than talent. It is more than government, almost equal to family.” – Don Vito Corleone.
8. Criminals in important positions are the most powerful criminals. “A lawyer with a briefcase can steal more money than a man with a gun.” – Mario Puzo – Godfather
9. Your business must be a private matter, discuss the business with family members only! Michael Corleone: “Don’t ask me about my business!” Do not discuss your personal or family business with strangers. One never knows who will use that information to their advantage, for their own gain.
10. Violence is a last resort Throughout the whole story, the Godfather is conveyed by a message of preference for diplomacy rather than violence. “I don’t like violence, Tom. I’m a businessman. Blood is a big expense.” -Solozo.
11. Drugs are undesirable Even criminals have a list of undesirable things, and drugs are at the top.”But drugs, it’s a dirty job.” – Don Vito Corleone.
12. Never ask for something in return for offering your friendship and respect “Now you come to me and say, ‘Don Corleone, do me justice.’ to my house, on my daughter’s wedding day, and you ask me to kill for money. ” – Don Vito Corleone.
13. Build a strong community Help others and you will get help back. You will also receive respect. Don Vito Corleone built a strong empire of a strong community. He helped neighbors and friends and established a great reputation. “One day, and that day may never come, I’ll invite you to do me a favor” – Don Vito Corleone.
14. Don’t take things too personally Sometimes, you just have to keep in mind that “it’s not personal, it’s business” – Michael Corleone.
