Things You Should Be Grateful For

There's so much wrong with the world we're raised in. There's so much about us that we want to improve. In an effort to make ourselves happier and improve our world, we always fail to be grateful for the things we do. We emphasis so much on the negative that the positive is losing its place in our hearts.

Here's a list of little and large stuff that we can all be grateful because, for gratitude is a virtue.

Your life

It's a blessing, no matter if you think it is. Too many people don't have the chance to do it as well as you've done.

Disease, hunger, starvation, and drought take thousands of lives per year, but you were fortunate. You must live, you must survive, you must exist and you must be able to imagine. Be so happy for your life.

Your situation

Wherever you are, if you read this, you're still in a stronger spot than the hundreds of millions of people who fail to get two square meals a day. Please be grateful for your situation.

Your parents

Your greatest fans and your most frank detractors. The only things who could have loved you more than you could ever have loved them. Not all of the parents are perfect, I agree, but they choose to let you live and give you life.

Be thankful to your parents for their guidance , motivation, intensity and undying affection. Be happy for the opportunity in life they've offered you.

Your friends

It's the family you've got. Think of the insane inside jokes, the awkward memories, the late night phone calls, and the fact that they've really got your back. Thank you for the priceless friendship.

Your courage

You've been living so long, you've come so far. You did so in spite of heartbreaks and suffering, in spite of rejection and loss. Yet here you are, alive, inspired and up to go.

Try to be thankful for something that offers you the will to get yourself out of bed and face the future. Be it your inspiration, your goals, your Creator, whatever, be thankful for your bravery.

Your strengths

The reality for once, you didn't break that down. The moment you helped your friend in despair, the time you posed for a family shot, when what you wanted to do was cry, but you didn't. Be thankful for your courage to face your struggles and conquer your sorrows.

Your mind

Complex research, a friend of the firm. Your mind will drift to unknown destinations and yet be back to the present in a fraction of a second. It keeps you optimistic, dreaming, wondering. Essentially, this is part of what makes you, you. Be happy for the power of your imagination to help make you who you are.

Your heart

Scared, hurt, cured, and still more of the same, the heart is like the soul of a three-year-old. It bounces back no matter how much it bears. If it were to pause for a second, your life could be in jeopardy. Thank you so much for your heart for its mettle.

Your senses

To touch, to smell, to see, to feel all the wonderful feeling that we take for granted. Dream of a day when you couldn't see that way. Dream of the pain if you can't taste it. Think of the elegance you'd lose if you weren't around to see. Be thankful for the senses that make the world feel amazing.

The things you love

All that you enjoy brings you pleasure. It's now a part of you, and it can make you grin or cry. Thank you for your presence and for the impact it has on your life.

Your belongings

Your wallet, your clothes, your sofa, your table, all you've got has a story. It's a novel, even if it's dull. When you have it, when you got it, how you got it, when you used it, every little detail works its way to make your life more full. Each story catches a moment in your life that never comes back. Thank you for the moments hidden in your possessions.

Your mistakes

A cloudy decision, a tinted view, an unjust comment, a dumb, stupid phone call. Some errors that have been forgiven and some that have not been forgiven. There were some errors that deserved an response, and some that did not.

Any mistake has helped you to evolve, to learn, to understand. Be thankful for the wisdom that made the mistakes possible.

Your life lessons

A lecture may have been something. Simple etiquette, the brush of a palm, the road back home, the stranger who helped, the little girl you've learned to comfort.

A lesson in life is something where only knowledge will make it possible. For every lesson learnt, you're a step more advanced than you were yesterday. Be thankful for the experience.

Your happiness

Happiness is a misinterpreted, sometimes misquoted asset. To be cherished is to be happy, to be an artist is to be happy, to stroll alone in a park with your mind is to be happy.

Happiness is the way you perceive it. Often individuals are deprived of their enjoyment and they always want to fulfill someone else's idea of it. It's a precious asset today, one that the nation is fighting to possess. Thank you for your happiness.

Your disappointments

For every failure you have faced, be it academic, emotional , physical, creative or mental, you have grown a little stronger. However, your sorrow momentarily depressed you, taught you to conquer your grief and to be content again. Be thankful for the strength your disappointments have brought you.

Your laughter and pain

To be able to draw meaning from a scenario is nothing short of a talent, a blessing, if you wish. To be able to look at something with an expression that you couldn't help but grin at.

The funny thing about the pain is that when you feel it, it hurts too much; then when it's gone, you can't remember how it feels. You know, you have an understanding why you hurt, but not how badly. Be glad that it's done, that the agony you once felt is no longer present. And the agony you feel is going to fade out eventually.
