Many of us are thrown away by social status, materialistic goods and luxuries in today's digital world, and how do you blame us? We are continuously being told that these items require the illusion of perfection, with filtered Instagram pictures and reality TV shows showcasing the elite.

But in fact, status, luxury goods and pricey things are worth nothing; they're not going to make you rich or safe. So, regardless of where you are in the world, the following should be among the most important items on the list.

Health

Being well is the only, most important aspect of our life – without good health, our lives will be cut short. That said, it is important not to take good health for granted and to feed our bodies the nutrients they deserve by consuming a healthy diet and engaging in daily physical activity. By promoting a healthier lifestyle, you can 'reduce the risk of serious diseases (such as heart disease and cancer) and promote the general health.'

Family

Though you may often fight and get angry with your mates, they are your unit and those you may look to in times of happiness and sorrow. No matter what you're going through with your family, they'll always be there to lead and nurture you and help you learn and develop as a person. The love of a family member is eternal and can not be taken for granted. Some people go through life without ever appreciating how important it is to have the love of their families and spend most of their time feeling sad. So, if you don't normally show your family how much they matter to you, it's time to start!

Friends

Like family, friends are a crucial part of our lives and happiness. They're friends who will celebrate the happiest parts of your life with you, and they'll be there as a trustee anytime you decide to talk about personal problems.

Although true friends are hard to come by, most of them have a couple of trustworthy friends they can count on. And even though you will be able to grow up with some of your peers at various times of your life, you will have the ability to develop new relationships with the people you come across.

Love

Love is the epicenter of every area of your life – it's not just about finding a girlfriend. You will love your companion in a special way, but you will still have an unchanging respect for your family and friends. Love is also the emotion that will guide you through your work, your extracurricular activities, your passions and your hobbies. You can also feel love in its different forms; you will go on holiday and fall in love with a specific place, food or community. What is important is that you accept everything that you love and appreciate.

Purpose

Finding a goal is a vital aspect of leading a rewarding existence. Without intent, we're not going to have the drive to do amazing things, or even to do something easy, like getting out of bed in the morning. According to psychologist Steve Taylor, having no reason 'makes us more vulnerable to boredom, anxiety, and depression.'

In the meantime, having a good sense of mission will have a profound impact on our lives. If you take a leaf out of the books of famous founders, most of them did so by possessing a motivation and a sense of mission. They worked tirelessly and they were sure in what they should do – and that is what we need to follow in order to feel fulfilled in life.

Wellness

Besides having a healthy body, it's also important to have a healthy mind! Luckily, we live in a time where emotional well-being is at the forefront, and those who are dealing with some mental health problem are getting the treatment and care they deserve to have a happier life.

That said, there are many ways you can enhance your well-being. Find things that make you relax; whether it's meditating on a regular basis, listening to a motivational podcast, or just going for a walk to collect your thoughts. Ichever strategy you select, make sure that your well-being is at the center of each of these tasks.

Education

Getting a decent education will help you make strides in your life. This doesn't actually mean that you need to complete higher education in order to be competitive. What this means is that you can expect to learn new things on a regular basis.

The type of education is completely up to you – you may choose to watch video, documentary or film education; read a book or read news. What is important is the information you learn from your education and how you want to apply it to your life.

Water and Food

Water is the most important aspect of life – we wouldn't be able to survive without safe water. Our bodies are made up of up to 60 per cent of water and are used in all our cells, lungs, and tissues to help control our temperature and sustain other body functions. Therefore, to ensure that we are not dehydrated and at risk of getting sick, we need to drink at least six glasses of water a day.

Although food may be an indulgence and a hobby, it is also a essential part of our life. Our body would require food, proteins , fats, minerals and vitamins to survive and remain safe. So, in order to preserve our wellbeing, we need to focus on a safe and nutritious diet.

Sleep

Sleep also plays a crucial role in our physical and emotional well-being. As Healthline says, 'Sleeping less than 7–8 hours a night is associated with an elevated risk of heart failure and stroke.' However, lack of sleep does not only place our health at risk, as it also has a detrimental impact on our mood. Did you ever remember how grouchy and irritable you were because you didn't get enough sleep? This is because low sleep quality is closely related to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
