This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Mycelic Morphoid.

Card Details

A Chaos Legion common level monster from the Earth Splinter at level 3:

  • Estimated cost: $0.82

  • Melee attack: 1

  • Speed: 1

  • Health: 2

  • Thorns ability: When hit with a Melee attack, does damage back to the attacker.

The weekly battles continue to focus on the new Chaos Legion cards, and this week it focuses on the Mycelic Morphoid. Mycelic Morphoid joins an elusive group of one mana-cap monsters in splinterlands. These monsters are often used throughout splinterlands battles either by being the last picked monster to use up the remaining mana-cap for the battle or used in low mana-cap battles or for a specific strategy/ruleset. The Mycelic Morphoid looks a helpful addition to the splinterlands collection, and I upgraded it to level three to unlock the Thorns ability to provide that extra utility.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

It's always challenging to feature a monster in a battle, especially when the said monster is under-leveled compared to the rest of the lineup. Regardless I wanted to feature the Mycelic Morphoid, and the primary strategy was to position it in the middle of the backline with high health monsters on either side of it to protect it. The Melee Mayhem ruleset allows melee monsters to attack from any position. Therefore, Mycelic Morphoid could chip in with some support damage and somehow survive the battle without taking any hits. My opponent had a mix of under-leveled cards, which didn't help him, and I managed to win this battle with not much of a struggle.

Do you like the Mycelic Morphoid? Why or why not?

Some of these new common Chaos Legion cards are pretty useful, and Mycelic Morphoid is another one of those common cards due to its one mana cap, Thorns ability, and some level of health and damage. As I continue with my pack opening challenge, I will look to acquire more of it and level it up to level six. It's the only mana-cap card with Thorns ability, so it's quite a unique card, and I can immediately see it is a card that I will be looking to use more and more in the future.
