All The Time In The World Is Ours [Poem]
Something I wrote for our Prenup video almost three years ago.
All the time in the world is ours.
With our hands pressed, fingers laced
Every moment we cherish. Every minute, every hour.
We don’t get tired when we walk long distances together.
It’s like everywhere is our own space.
We feel like all the time in the world is ours.
We talk and gossip over the phone until the silence gets louder
From just the sound of your breath, I could already imagine your face.
Every moment I cherish. Every minute, every hour.
When we started, some said we were too young to already think of growing old together.
They said there are dreams that people should separately chase.
We said, “All the time in the world is ours!”
We marched forward. We didn’t cower.
We knew life is a journey best enjoyed with another. It’s not a race.
Every moment we cherish. Every minute, every hour.
We’ll pile our hopes and dreams until they make a tower.
We promise to go through all levels. We’ll set our own pace.
Because all the time in the world is ours.
Every moment we’ll cherish. Every minute, every hour.
If you noticed, a few lines were used repetitively in the poem. This kind of poem is called a Villanelle.
I chose to do a Villanelle because the repeated lines were representative of how my husband and I took our sweet time before deciding to get married. We were high school sweethearts and our relationship as boyfriend-girlfriend ran for 12 years. Eh, another story for another article.
