We as citizens are big on celebrations. We look to celebrate every little thing we can. One might even say that we look for something to celebrate. And yesterday was another reason for us to celebrate.
Mothers' day. It is a day that we show our appreciation to al the mothers out there. And for a lot of us, it's one reason to get together, share meals and be glad together.
I imagine that if it wasn't due to this pandemic, many people will flock to resorts and beaches. The heat from recent days have been unrelenting and unforgiving so most of us opted to just stay home and embraced the celebration in the comfort of our own homes.
Origin of Mother's Day
Well according to the internet, mothers' day is inspired by Anne Reeves Jarvis. In May of the year 1908, she organized an event to commemorate the sacrifices of all the mothers for their children. This is in memorial of her latw mother. The event was held in a methodist church in Grafton West Virginia.
The event has then became an annual event for them. Later, she then asked members of the Congress to set aside a date to celebrate Mother's day.
In 1914, she eventually succeeded when the then President Woodrow Wilson made a national holiday of every second Sunday of May to be National Mothers' day.
And I guess since we are heavily influenced by the west, we adapted the celebration and here we are today.
It was later thought and ascertained that she herself regretted pushing for the holiday be created. It was even said that she wished that the holiday be rescinded. And what did happen to cause this complete turn around? It is said that the commercialization of the holiday has horrified her. Maybe she didn't wish that the celebration of mothers' sacrifices be used as advertisement and marketing campaigns. Maybe she felt that the commemoration be solemn, modest and humble, not some sort of festivities such as valentine's day.
Simple Celebration
Since we can't have a humble get away for the day we decided to hang back and just celebrate simply at home. Got a late start for the day so the celebration began at lunch.
From the morning, I greeted my friends and other relatives. And for lunch we just ordered in. Few pizza from greenwich, KFC and some lasagna. That consisted our sumptuous meal. Simple yet amazing because it's been consumed together. And after that, oh yeah you guessed it right, back in the sack.
Of course it's a day to eat so for snacks I went out to pick some dishes. I decided to have some local noodle dish called "palabok" so I drove into a restaurant that serves it. I wanted to order a big serving of it to feed members of our family. And yes, we eat a lot. But as I got in front if the store, I had to turbed back right around because the place was swamped.
And the celebratory spirits of our fellows are really evident with that scenery. Everywhere I went was full house. Flowers here, cakes over there, it's nice to celebrate things amidst this pandemic, but safely of course.
I ended up picking up family pans from Jollibee. Who wouldn't want that right? And then since the heat was like telling all of us to suffer, I picked up some ice cream to quench the hellish thirst for coolers.

Business people will always find a way to make money, eh. I think it's fine to celebrate something neutral. Thanks for telling how it all started!
