The film I am going to talk about next belongs to a great Italian artist, Pier Paolo Pasolini, who during his lifetime was a communist political activist, atheist, filmmaker and poet. It is said that among his films the most controversial has been Saló, or the 120 Days of Sodomy, which shows a series of very crude and grotesque images, in addition to the story it tells; a story that we are going to analyze right now.

Plot

In a small town called Saló, there are 4 very important and powerful men of the place, who in the company of their assistants go in search of a group of boys and girls, to be taken to a mansion where they will be exposed to various psychological, physical and mainly sexual tortures.

Opinion

I must say that I have already seen the film twice, the first time I had the feeling that it had a background of denunciation against the ruling classes of society, which do whatever it takes to maintain control over the population using mostly force; Now, several years later I realize that this ruling class represented through figures such as the Clergy, President, Minister and Duke, are beings whose appetite for pleasure is insatiable, possessing absolutely no empathy, making them look like true psychopaths.

Something interesting to note is also the misogynistic behavior present throughout the film, where the main male characters -who give orders to commit such atrocities- despite having sexual relations with women tend to treat them with contempt unlike those of the same sex, who receive preferential treatment and less humiliation. Another point that stands out is the mention by the characters of the enjoyment for the murder they came to commit for the murder of their respective mothers, as well as the rejection or hatred towards the God of the Bible and the worship of pagan deities.

In conclusion, this film may be interesting for some people to be brought to analysis and discussion, while for others it may be somewhat tormenting for its content in images and arguments - despite having half a century after being released.

As for you, would you dare to watch it? And if you have already seen it, what is your opinion about it? Besides, do you know any other films of this genre to recommend

?

Without further ado, we'll meet you in the next installment.
