Short Story: The Flight

Among the wide and vast desert you can see a path made by the footsteps of a man who has been walking for a long time. His terrified face is no longer so noticeable due to the fatigue of the long walk under the sun, and the loss of liquid through the sweat that obstructs his vision and covers almost his entire body.

He can hardly pant; it is almost hard to breathe because of the dust in the air; the muscles of his legs seem to be exhausted. He feels that his life is slipping away with every step he takes, and he wants it all to end at once, but, even so, fear and desperation continue to drive him forward.

In spite of continuing, the man stumbles over a stone the size of a soccer ball, which causes him to fall abruptly, and also causes him severe pain in his right foot after the blow. He is left staring half sideways at the ground, with his mouth open to continue panting like a dog left in agony in its last moments. And whatever he does, he feels that everything is lost, since he is alone in the middle of the desert and without anyone to help him. That's what he thought for a few moments until he suddenly sees a small vehicle approaching, a Jeep that stops a few hundred steps away from him. At that moment, he saw three men of bad appearance get out, two of them were carrying wooden sticks in their hands, and another one a baseball bat.

Their looks were of pure anger.

The man lying on the ground experiences a huge fear, so much that even his heart seems to burst and his face is perplexed by imagining what will happen, but now because the men who want to settle accounts with him after not having paid the restaurant bill, and having left without paying the hamburger with double meat and yellow cheese accompanied by an extra-large glass of Coca-Cola, and an ice cream of three flavors, were about to approach him.

Laughter erupts throughout the class, and even the teacher herself feels she can't contain herself. Some of them say things like: "not even Hollywood dared to do so much", "what a crazy ending you have created for that story", "your story made me hungry". Jaimito feels so sad that he already wishes that his shift at school would end, but he will have to wait a long time since the day is just beginning.
