As we well know, since the appearance of man in the world, sex has always been part of human life, and this has manifested itself either as an activity not only for the reproduction of the species or love but also for recreational purposes and pleasure that often transcends the limits of what is allowed or considered "normal" (all depending on personal or cultural values of the society to which we belong). In the modern era and more thanks to technological advances, pornography has been able to spread in many ways as it is today through the Internet but before the existence of this medium such material was only available through magazines, adult cinemas, subscription channels among others, and one of the means that was available for the privacy of many people were the cassette tapes or home movies; the latter serves as an excuse for the argument of this film that we will address below.
Argument
8 millimeters tells the story of private detective Tom Welles (played by Nicolas Cage) who is hired by a high society lady to solve a mystery involving the recording of a tape of footage in 8 millimeters being classified as snuff genre, which shows a girl being murdered and dismembered at the hands of a man covered with a black leather hood.
From here the film will lead us to explore the most perverse side of the world of sex where the detective will have to face the various sexual fetishes as the investigation progresses, which will produce in him an internal conflict about his own values -being a family man-, and the atrocities of which every person is capable of committing for the satisfaction of sexual pleasure, all this until he finds the answer he needs to solve the case.

Opinion
I feel that the film is highly recommended but could have given more because the way it was directed did not allow to show the harsh reality of the world in which the protagonist is exposed, and it is understood that they did it that way to be as commercially as possible in the theaters where it was to be released. On the other hand, Nicolas Cage's performance is somewhat weak in this opportunity since there are moments in which his face fails to adequately express the indignation and disgust he is experiencing with everything he encounters, unlike James Gandolfini, who knew how to act or express himself in a better way due to the type of character he had to play. Besides, I must say that if the younger ones get to see this movie they will be able to realize how the traffic of pornographic material was before the Internet, specifically what the Deep Web is.
And as for you, have you already seen it? would you watch a movie like this? what do you think? Leave your opinions in the comments box and I will be glad to read them and answer your questions.
I hope you can be well. Best regards. See you in the next installment.
