Today I want to share with you how to make an hourglass with light bulbs. Many times we have objects at home that we think have no value or that cannot be useful to us, however if we activate our creative side we can make very beautiful things with them. On this occasion, use materials such as light bulbs and some very nice perfume caps to make this hourglass.
The materials to use:
2 bulbs
3 Perfume caps
Silicone gun
Fine sand
Tweezers
Screwdriver
Cutter
Step by Step:
The first step we must do is remove the aluminum thread and the internal base of the bulb. We must take the precaution of wrapping the bulb in a thick cloth when we are working with the bulb so that we will avoid cutting ourselves in case it breaks.
With the cutter we eliminate the aluminum contact of the bulb that is in the upper part and with the screwdriver the insulator is removed and breaks the internal base of the bulb. Once the internal base is rotated with the clamp, little by little we remove it from the bulb, finally we remove the aluminum thread from the bulb.
The steps to follow are very simple, easy and fast to do. We wash the bulbs very well to remove any glass residues that may remain and we dry them very well so that they do not cause humidity when placing the sand. Then with the silicone the caps of the perfumes are glued in the widest part of the bulbs.
With a small funnel made of paper, we pour the sand into one of the bulbs. To make this watch, use beach sand which passes through a strainer to remove coarse residues and make the sand as clean and fine as possible.
The cap that I found and used to join both bulbs is ideal since there was no need to drill it so that the sand circulated between both bulbs because it had a hole in the middle. So I just had to glue it with the silicone joining both bulbs in the center.
This is how beautiful and decorative the hourglass is.This watch has a duration of 5 minutes.
As you can see it is very easy to do. If you have materials at home that you can use to make your hourglass, take advantage of them, and so you will have a very decorative object in your home and made by you.
I have some light bulbs lying around. But the first parts where we have to remove and clean the glass residue part looks a little challenging because of the glass. I have a phobia for shattered glass :D And probably will need to find a wider cap so that the hourglass is more stable. Thank you for sharing the idea @marcia!
