In reflection of our unique personalities, every word we speak is profound and important. The way a language is used by is called language register that a speaker will use in different circumstances, situations or opportunities. Have you noticed the differences when you talk to your group of friends and to your teachers? We also used a certain tone when we communicate with our parents, neighbors, doctors, and many more. This is because we consider the person, the objective of the conversation, and even the situation both of you are in. It changes due to our relationship with each other wether he or she needs a deep respect or not. Thus, it is crucial to contemplate the background of the person we are talking to.

There are four forms of language register that we used in our day to day living. To communicate properly using the appropriate word, let's venture each of them through a famous person named, Kathryn Bernardo. With the help of her awesome vlogs, I was able to know her well.

Look how lovely she is! Honestly, I'm not that fond of Kathryn Bernardo like most of the fans today but I truly admire how genuine and humble she is to herself and to the people surrounding her including those of outside the country despite her eminence. I chose her as an example for today's blog because she is a prominent Filipina actress ever since she was little and currently a successful vlogger who is admired by millions of people especially Filipinos.

Intimate

One form of language register is this called intimate. This form usually happens between two person such as lovers whose relationship is too deep than they have with other people. Well, when we hear Kathryn's name, we can also think of her long time boyfriend and love team Daniel Padilla or DJ. At any moment they talk some things about her, Kathryn's voice is very soft and gentle especially when DJ forgets something. He will remind her then slowly with a hint of sulking. Both still looks so sweet.

Casual

Such way of communication usually happens between circle of friends, workmates, and people we know for long. Vernaculars, street, and colloquial words are often used and heard among them. Yet, when it comes about Kathryn, one can still notice the modesty in her voice when talking with friends about their experiences together despite the dominant enthusiasm on her way of speaking.

Consultative

In the video I watched, Kathryn's way of speaking is full of respect as she talks to one of the nurses/doctors of the said hospital. This is a consultative way of communicating toward a person who has special skills and knowledge and gives professional advices as well. On the video, her consultative way of speaking is mixed with casualness because as she became her friend within years of repetitive consultations there to take care of her face. That also shows how kind and friendly she is.

Formal

We all surely communicate formally in every formal occasions we go to like meetings where a respectful and full of restraint conversation is badly needed and must not be exposed with street terms. Like Kathryn Bernardo, she is so respectful and modest when speaking in front of many people. He answers the questions gently and truthfully whenever she has an interview with the reporters in the video about her and her work as an actress. She does not use "po" and "opo", however, a deep respect and formality can still be seen.

Frozen

It is a static form of register as it remains a historic language and won't be changed including the God's words in the Bible, laws, rituals, and other printed literatures. With that, Kathryn is serious whenever the law is discussed, especially when there are alarming issues. As when ABS-CBN was shut down, she said that they did not break any law in a video to tell people who have gone below the belt. Many people criticized them and even their own families were also affected. She spoke humbly and sadly to the public because of the issues involved such as labor issue and public health.

We have different ways of communicating. As I've said earlier, our words are sensitive, thus, let's beware of saying words that will cause harm. There is a need to know how these work and suit it to our partner, topic, purpose, and occasion of the conversation. Remember that proper interaction is the bridge to a good, stronger, and healthy relationships.
