The main objective to these topic is to understand the importance of firm foundations and how they can be built in our lives.
God wants to build His Kingdom using His sons and daughters.
As we come on this journey of following Jesus and press on to represent, reflect, grow and mature, it is important that we understand where we are as sons and build our lives correctly.
God wants to make us wise builders.
In Luke 6:46-4946 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
Jesus speaks of two scenarios in building a house.
First: A wise builder who builds on a well-built foundation.
Second: A foolish builder who builds on a weak foundation.
The Reason for Foundations:
Remember that everything that is built has a foundation. The strength of the house lies in the strength of it's foundation. For a house to be strong, it has to be built on a strong foundation. It does not matter if something is built with the best material if it can be easily destroyed due to it's poor foundation. For example, you can have a house with glass walls, marble floors and counter tops, extravagant wooden cabinets, etc. but what does any of that matter if you know it is not safe to withstand a storm. In the same way, foundations in our lives are critical because they are what everything else is built on.Our foundations are important and crucial to the building process of our lives. Your foundation can determine longevity, the outcome of storms, pressures, fears, failures and how far you go in life.We can go through our whole lives and different seasons, but if we do not take the time to examine what we are building our lives on, we can be setting ourselves up for failure, just like the one who built his house on the sand.
Just like a house, a proper spiritual foundation is also required for us to grow in spiritual maturity.
In Hebrews 6:1-2
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,2 instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
REMEMBER:
We can only go on to maturity if our foundations are laid well.
If our foundation is wrong, we will constantly be swayed and never be able to move on or mature in the ways of God.
It is not only important to recognize the importance of foundations, it is also important to make sure set our lives on the right foundation.
