My Perspective

Solomon reign signifies the climax of Israel as a Nation together and of glory. The crowning achievement of King Solomon's reign was the erection of the magnificent first Temple. Solomon spared no expense for the building's creation. However, the Temple was eventually destroyed by the Babylonians.

As noted in Ezra 3:12 down,

"But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy"

But in Haggai 2, the word of the Lord came to  prophet Haggai, to strengthen Zerubbabel the governor of Judah and Joshua  the high priest not to relent in their efforts to continue the building of the second temple. Regardless of the complaints by the people who saw the first Temple and the glory. And when compared to the second Temple.

Like I did asked in the previous Bible study challenge, the phrase

"The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts"

It simply means, yes the second temple might not be anywhere near the first Temple in sizes and material beautification, but the glory would certainly be greater than the first Temple simply because that was the temple Jesus would walk in and open the Bible to read from  Luke 4:18-21

Indeed, today we who believe in Jesus, as described by the Bible, are regarded as the temple of God. In the nutshell, as big and magnificent was, it never had the honor of God personified in Jesus walk into it before its destruction.
