Importance of Science & Technology
In the TEDxDanubia, The Big History of Modern Science by Hannu Rajaniemi showed how our understanding of science changed over time and the exponentially increasing complexities imposed in our lives. In the belief that science and technology are amongst the most important factors driving societal change and that modern physics is full of beautiful ideas the talk was filled with the history of science – from big to small things, implications of science and technology to society and the invention of different technologies.
HISTORY
The History of Science is an important aspect in any field of study relating to sciences and the world. It shows the historical development of science and scientific knowledge, including both the natural sciences and social sciences. Hannu quoted that “We live in a world where most of what we think is wrong, small things that are breaking means big things are breaking” It is indeed true for things are interrelated to one another, once something is broken, change is due to happen in every system of all chains in our world. Everything is connected even if we don’t see those connections using our naked eyes. Science is a body of empirical, theoretical, and practical knowledge about the natural world, produced by scientists who emphasize the observation, explanation, and prediction of real world phenomena. Hannu also gave an accurate prediction that the next pandemic would be global which is what the world is now suffering from, the Corono Virus and in order to find a solution to this phenomena, looking for the cause of this virus was the stepping stone to formulate a cure. This what makes the history of science essential for our further development, Rajaniemi emphasized that “in order to understand anything, you have to understand everything”. But what makes science amazing is that complexities do not limit us to stop searching and making more opportunities.
IMPLICATIONS
The Implications of Science and Technology to the Society. The impact of science and technology on modern society is broad and wide-ranging, influencing such areas as politics, diplomacy, defense, the economy, medicine, transportation, agriculture, social capital improvement, and many more. The fruits of science and technology fill every corner of our lives. In the present, squarely addressing the relationship between science and technology and society is an essential challenge to the sound development of science and technology, one which it is important to continue addressing in the future based on historical and civilized perspectives, while also maintaining a deep awareness of the needs of the times.
INVENTIONS
The Invention of Different Technologies. We create technology to fill a void, need, or want. That's the essential part of it. One great example is the invention of telephone. We needed a way to communicate faster and better between vast distances than sending mail, which could take months to get from one point to another. So, humans invented the telephone to talk to one another. But everything has its own drawbacks, so innovations is the art of science that scientists and engineers continues to develop new technologies that would benefit us. Telephone started as short-range type of phone and was then improved to touch-dial phone, mobile phone, cordless phone, portable phone and adding other features such as camera, producing the camera phone and now we have smartphones that are capable for so many things such as to email, fax, and search the internet. But the advancement does not stop there, until today new models with new features are being developed.
I've always love being a scientist
