NO FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES UNTIL NO VACCINE IS DISTRIBUTED TO THE MASS AND COVID-19 CASES IN THE PHILIPPINES IS STILL INCREASING.

Position Paper on DepEd's statement on the possibility of a gradual return to face-to-face learning in 2021.

The stand of the second group of ABM 12.

DepEd plans to resume face-to-face classes by 2021. The Secretary of Education Leonor Briones said that based on the UNICEF study, the risk of infection at home is higher than at school but there is no concrete study that says students and teachers are safe from the virus in public places. Let's take the example of the sudden increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases now that the holiday season is approaching; many individuals are now going out of their house.

According to the Secretary of the Department of Health Francisco Duque, children should not be allowed to leave the house because they are one of those who can bring disease to the community and infect people who are more prone to diseases such as the elderly. He added that 3-5% of COVID-19 cases in the country are children. If DepEd's plan goes ahead, students and faculty can be instrumental in transmitting the disease and having another wave of virus-positive testers. This is supported by South Korea's study of how children can be 'silent spreaders'. Children with the disease usually do not show symptoms (asymptomatic). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of America added that of the 110 students they traced and tested, 12 did not show any symptoms and they infected their family.

The second group of ABM 12 will continue to stand up and oppose DepEd's plan to continue face-to-face classes. The group will support the data released by expert people and health institutions.
