Insensitive statement of Harry Roque (AN OPINION)

August 17, 2020 - Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque praised the Philippines after the report saying that the unemployment rate rose to 45%. He added that at least the figure didn't reach 100%.

He also applauded the resiliency of the Filipinos despite the lockdown that lasted for almost 5 months (one of the longest in the world). During this time, 27 million Filipinos lost their job.

I can say that this statement of Harry Roque is just pure insensitive and stupid. How can he say that to the millions of Filipinos who are now having a hard time thinking about what they will do to feed their families.

I noticed that Harry Roque tries to be positive all the time. I mean, there's no wrong in being a positive thinker but excessive of it is not good. He's trying to be optimistic, to the point he denies that there's a serious problem going on. He always tries to make a good impression by saying that everything is okay. This is a toxic/false positivity.

I can't add any additional opinions about this. I am speechless. This is absurd.

At least he is optimistic. I am afraid it's worldwide the same although some countries work hard to create/give jobs to those who became jobless during the past months and succeed. It doesn't mean there are any jobless people or they didn't already have a high rate but at least the amount isn't increasing.
