We are in the 21st Century wherein people can communicate with others with the use of Internet connection. People can talk to their relatives and friends on the other side of the world without traveling and spending a lot of money. People can almost do whatever they want if they need someone to talk to yet there are still people who feel isolated. Regardless of age, individuals with less social interaction have disrupted sleeping patterns and have a higher level of stress. Even though we are living in the most connected time in human history, yet people still feel this kind of situation.
The main goal of inventing the internet is to make communication easier. But as time goes by, this great invention in human history became, at some point, a hindrance to human progress.
This is the topic that we, personally, can feel. It is really relevant especially to teenagers who felt isolated even though, we can interact with others as fast as we can. Due to the extensive use of social networking sites, we neglect the natural way of communicating—interacting with others personally. We should try to engage everyone to lessen the use of the Internet and try to socialize with others.
The internet changed our culture and society. It drastically changed how we decide and act on things. It also changes how we communicate with others. The trend of fashion on the internet lets us decide what to wear or not. Most of the food business establishments advertise their products on social media platforms and it makes us crave and buy it thru online. The tradition of getting out on Sunday after getting church is being forgotten little by little because some people tend to choose to order food from online to avoid stressful traffic jams. The way we talk also changed. Sometimes, we tend to spoke what we have heard or read on the internet. Sometimes, the way we act is also influenced by the internet. Recently, natural disasters opened the eyes of some individuals. With the help of the internet, it became more sensational that makes the people aware and eventually donate.
But even we’re in the era of connectedness, some of us tend to feel lonely. They feel that no one wants to talk to them. I think the reason behind this is we almost rely on internet when communicating that we tend to forget how to connect with people naturally. We’re used to talk virtually that we have reached the point that it became awkward to talk personally.
Internet brought us convenience. But if we will let this great invention eat our system, this may result to the greatest enemy invented.
