Even if eggs are properly stored, they have a decent shelf life, they can eventually spoil.

But how de we know if it's still fresh or dangerous to eat already?

What shall we do, to at least determine, if the egg is still good or not?

So here it is! A simple method, to know the freshness of the egg.

The "FLOAT TEST!"

All we need, of course the egg, cold water and a bowl. The size of the bowl to choose, should be a size just enough to hold water to show if the egg or eggs will float or not.

Just fill the bowl with water. Put the egg or eggs on it very carefully to avoid damages. We should avoid eggs from cracking. Don't drop it hard. Oh my!

Then what?

If the egg sinks or stays at the bottom, it's a sign of freshness.

Egg stand on its end or float, will become a good swimmer someday. Nah? It just means they are old or older eggs.

What's behind this?

As egg ages, more air builds up inside it, and increases its buoyancy.

However, floating egg(s) may still be safe to eat. Old eggs, doesn't mean bad eggs already. A person can further test the egg by cracking it, open to smell it and check it for visible signs of contamination.

How to confirmed if it's already not safe to eat?

Most likely, when an egg is very old or rotten, a person can smell the foul odor before cracking it open.

Always remember that egg(s) with foul smell should not be eaten. You're doom, if you will! Believe me.

Regarding egg's freshness, try to consider checking the date of expiration, visually inspecting the eggshell, and cracking the egg open to smell inside. If for any doubt about whether an egg has gone bad, you should throw it out or make it a part of an organic fertilizer.

Keep in mind that eating bad eggs is very risky for Salmonella infection, which can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and fever.

To reduce the risk of Salmonella, keep eggs refrigerated, discard eggs with cracked shells, and always cook eggs thoroughly.

Happy reading!

Thank you.

PS.

After some research, I have found out that fresh or new eggs from the Wyandottes chicken breeds normally floats.

So, it's very advisable still, to always practice the visual and smell test, to determined bad from good eggs.
