I want to share a very long article. Have you encountered someone who identifies themselves with strange letter codes like INTJ or ESTP? The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a personality classification known for its personality typology consisting of four letter systems, is a personality inventory designed to describe personality type, strengths and preferences.

This inventory, which divides personality into 16 separate groups according to various characteristics, was developed by Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs on the basis of Carl Jung's studies on the theory of personality types. Today, the MBTI inventory is known as one of the most widely used personality assessment tools in the world, along with the Big Five Factor Theory.

Following Carl Jung's work on personality closely, Myers and Briggs suggested that a more detailed personality analysis should be done to facilitate the applicability of the theory and to enable it to be used as a tool to understand individual differences. They structured the characteristics of 16 personality types in detail in order to be used as a guide in important matters such as career and career choice, and as a tool to make people's lives happier and more meaningful.

According to comprehensive analysis made with the answers to the questions in the Myers-Briggs personality inventory, it is known that all individuals around the world have one of 16 personality types. The purpose of MBTI is to help people better explore and understand their own personalities, including their likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, possible career choices and compatibility with other people.

According to this theory, since no personality type is "better" or "worse" than the other, the purpose of the inventory is only to help you learn more about yourself and to take more accurate steps to realize your potential.

According to the Myers-Brigss personality type classification, each of the 16 personality types consists of different combinations of 4 subcategories of the personality. Character traits that make up these 4 subcategories consist of four different bipolar dimensions: extroverted - introverted, sensory - intuitive, intellectual - emotional and judgmental - perceptual.

Extroverted (E) - Introverted (I)

The extroverted-introverted concepts first emerged in Carl Jung's theory of personality types as a way of explaining how people interact with the outside world and their experiences. While these terms are familiar to most of us, the way they are used in MBTI is slightly different from their popular usage.

Extroverts get their energies from communicating with the outside world and tend to be action-oriented in general. They enjoy social interaction and feel energetic after spending time with other people. Introverts, on the other hand, get their energies from communicating with their inner worlds and tend to be thought-oriented in general. In their social interactions, they are nourished by establishing deep and meaningful relationships, and by spending time alone, they gather energy and feel renewed in this way.

According to the Myers-Briggs approach, we can all exhibit situationally extroverted or introverted character traits; however, while for some of us introversion is more dominant, for others, extroverted character traits may be more visible.

Sensory (S) - Intuitive (N)

This dimension of personality involves learning how the individual collects information from the outside world. Just like extroversion and introversion, we all receive information sometimes using our senses and sometimes intuition, depending on the situation. However, according to MBTI, some of us use our intuition more intensely in this information retrieval process, while some of us tend to use our senses more. Since people who use their senses more tend to focus on details and learn by experiment, they are more interested in deep and intense experiences. In contrast, the intuitive people pay more attention to patterns and the connections between objects - experiences - people. They enjoy thinking about possibilities, imagining the future, and abstract theories.

Intellectual (T) - Emotional (F)

This dimension of personality focuses on discovering how we make decisions based on the information we gain through our intuition or senses. People who choose to make decisions by thinking pay more attention to facts and objective data. Due to their motivation to make the most consistent and logical choice in decision making processes; they tend to make decisions based on objective data, which are often impersonal. In contrast, people who choose to make decisions with their emotions are more likely to consider other people and emotions in their inferences and decisions.

Judgmental (J) - Perceptual (P)

The final dimension of personality, judgment and perception, includes understanding the ways to cope with the problems faced by the individual in the external world. Those inclined to judgment often prefer to make decisions with clearly defined frames and definite results. People who are prone to perception show more open, flexible and adaptable character traits.

Judgment and perception of these four dimensions of personality, all of which are interrelated, help define whether you are extroverted when receiving new information (sensory and intuitive) or making decisions (intellectual and emotional).

Myers-Briggs personality types

The Myers-Briggs Personality types are expressed in letter combinations determined by which end you are closer to in each of the four different dimensions of personality above. For example, if you are extroverted (E) in your communication, your senses (S) as a method of getting information, focus on thoughts (T) in decision-making processes, and prefer judgment (J) as a way to cope, your personality type is called ESTJ.

Interesting and educational article on the theory of personality types. This reminds me of my days as a graduate student in the area of organizational development (DO). At that time (the 90s) I made contact with a Doctor who represented a company that applied tests parameterized in the criteria that you describe very well. I still keep the material that he sent on the matter, and that I use in my work environment by virtue of my functions in the organization.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

You didn't notice that the only person who commented to you other than me, took this excerpt from your article and posted it in their comment? I don't find this to be honest. Because he is spamming.

I just pulled the excerpt from your article and compare it to the comment so you can observe what the user did.
