Peace of Mind by Slowing Life

In my last post on another platform, I mentioned the importance of slowing down, that our reaction when we can't slow down is either to give up everything and do nothing, or to get caught up in the vicious circle of rushing like a hamster. Today, I think it is important to look a little deeper into this “haste” state of affairs.

Due to the time we live in, we all take the point of view that we need to catch up with something. For this, we do not hesitate to use all our energy to achieve that goal and we stay with our battery dead at the end of the day. Even though everything seems so simple like this, when we are in fear of "catching up" and "falling behind", unfortunately, we may not always show this common sense. At least I am one of those who cannot always show this common sense, but struggle.

Why should we stop rushing?

We are deeply mistaken that when we hurry, if we do not hurry, we will have achieved our goal with a greater margin than we did. I can tell from my own experience that this results in very little difference each time. You may have an appointment to catch up and you can try to catch up with your vehicle at high speed, by throwing shears, by entering and exiting the safety lane. While doing all of these, we spend a lot of energy, our risk of having an accident, the possibility of facing a heavy traffic ticket, etc. When we think about it, we are faced with the question of whether we have actually won these fifteen minutes, which we think we have won. There may be situations where it is expensive because of its lining.

This does not mean take your time in situations that are vital to you. The situation I am trying to express here is the situations in which this turns into our way of life. In a body that is constantly being stimulated in this way, some undesirable situations are likely to occur in the long term.

If you are making an intense effort because you are afraid of what will happen when you are a few minutes late where you need to go, then it may be useful to evaluate how real your fear is. You can follow these steps for this:

When the urge to rush is awakened within you, or when you notice that it is starting to wake up, focusing on your breath for a minute can greatly help you control this impulse. In step two: If I don't rush, what could be the worst? If I hurry, what could be the best and the worst? We can evaluate it objectively. This approach can help you look at the situation from a distance and clearly.

If, after doing all this, you still feel like you are falling behind and straying from your schedule, then you may need to reevaluate the situations you prioritized in your life. For example, you can start by reorganizing things that are not in harmony with your goal. Perhaps it can be facilitating to redefine priorities and differentiate between urgent and necessary tasks. Or you can work effectively by taking short breaks.

Sometimes the solution is so simple that suggestions that do not seem worth trying even in our eyes can be the solution we are looking for. If this is the case, I think it is essential to look at ourselves objectively here, too.
