SPOILER ALERT!!
I'm talking about the Netflix series entitled "SEX LIFE". If you have just started or currently watching the episodes of this series, then it's up to you to continue reading or not. I will be talking about my opinion and I might spoil your excitement but basically I wanted to share my personal feelings about the movie.
What it's all about..
Billie Mann or B. is married to a banker Cooper Connely for 8 years. They had 2 kids, Hudson and a little baby girl. Billie's life as a married woman looked so perfect. They live in a peaceful suburban place. Her husband goes to work and she stays at home to take care of the kids.
Cooper is the common ideal man that a woman could ever want in her life. B could never ask for more. He had a nice job, a huge house and he is a total gentleman and a sweet husband and father to his kids. The one that most girls would tag as "Mr. Right". He is perfect. Their life is perfect.
According to B, she had never caught her husband cheat on her. This man is way too good and honest and she loves him so much for that. She felt so secured and protected in the hands of Cooper.
But in every perfect marriage, conflicts still arise. Billie who had a wild sex life in the past seems to have missed the goodness of it. She had different partners or even swap partners with her best friend Sash. They were that close and cool to each other. She kept remembering her past, the way her life used to be. She loved every moment of it. Everything has become way too different now that she's married to a good guy. The thrill that she has been craving for when she was single is nowhere to be found in her happily ever after.
As she stays at home to take care of her little children, she recalls the thrilling moments of her life with her ex-boyfriend Brad. Then she went on writing everything in a journal. B started comparing her life from eight years ago and the one she has in the present. As she remembers Brad, she also remembers every detail of her memories with him. Closing her eyes while she writes, savoring every bit of detail of that wild past. Everyday she writes the things that she can remember about her ex-boyfriend and the most daring moments that they had.
Then one morning she came down to see Cooper reading all her fantasies with Brad. He read everything and Billie was speechless and unable to explain. Cooper was so upset that morning. When he came home Billie tried to explain to him about the journal but she was surprised to see her husband bring a nice dress for her. He plans to give her a break and bring her on a date.
That night Cooper called up for Trina to look after the kids. Trina is Devon's (Cooper's friend and co-worker) wife. He took B into a party but it seemed to have brought her back to the old days again. She felt uneasy and asked her husband to bring her home but he insisted and they stayed. B felt awkward as she thinks her husband is not this type of person that she knew. After the party, they made a trip into someone else's backyard. The next thing that happened, they made love in the poolside. B is enjoying the moment, moaning as if nobody could hear them. Then someone came out and shouted at them. It was actually Cooper's client who is supposed to be out of town. They come running away from the pool naked 😂. They were even chased by the police.
That was the first time Cooper did something really far out from his personality. He couldn't even believe he'd be driving a car naked while being chased by police officers. He did all of this trying hard to fill his wife's sexual fantasies.
As he was getting ready for bed, he glanced at her laptop and remembered what he read. He ended up feeling disgusted.
B called her bestfriend Sash. She told her everything that happened earlier that night. Then a little while later, when she thought it was still Sash who's calling, she was shocked to hear that familiar voice. It was Brad. Then she goes crazy remembering the past again.
The next day, Billie becomes more emotional. She decided to visit Sash as she needs someone to talk to. As her friend opened the door, she saw that man in her old memories. He's been hooking up with her friend. She was stunned and walked away. But that didn't affect her relationship with her best friend.
Billie never stopped writing on her journal. And Cooper is in great heartbreak for reading all of it. The details of her life together with Brad is all written in that journal. It says everything she felt about the emptiness in her. There's no question in marrying Cooper but that doesn't fill her sexual desires. She got used into a wild sex life, doing it anywhere like savage, she doesn't care as long as she is with Brad.
Cooper is trying to hold on this relationship and Billie has been trying hard to resist her thirst of the past. She tried fixing things and getting back her husband's trust, but it seems that Cooper is slowly fading. He seemed to get fed up with all of his wife's fantasies. Still they both worked on it to save this marriage.
B planned a double dinner date with her husband with Brad and Sash making them pretend as real lovers. She wanted to prove to Cooper that she never cheated on him through that journal. She wanted to show him that the feelings for Brad are all gone. But that double date went bad when Brad started talking and it provoked the husband. B ran into the restroom and Brad followed her and locked them up. Cooper was so mad that he left the place and went to his boss, Francesca. Sash didn't like this idea in the first place and walked out as well. Billie was left without a ride home, she had no choice but to accept Brad's offer to bring her home. When they arrived home, Brad asked to see her kids.
That night, Cooper spent the night at Francesca's place. The next day, Billie went to Cooper's workplace and tried her best to fix everything with him. Cooper is almost losing his patience. Francesca on the other hand also tries to win Cooper but he insisted on fixing his marriage with B. She tells him that she's an option if they break up.
Cooper got the partnership that he's been working so hard for. He excitedly went home to celebrate it with his wife. Billie was not home at the moment. She planned on seeing Brad to end her frustrations. They went to an old place where they used to hang out. He offered to go some other place with her when B saw her phone with so many missed calls from Cooper. She then realized that she needed to go home to her husband. She came home running to see her house empty. Cooper and the kids are nowhere to be found. With all her anxieties, she found the laptop and threw it away. She couldn't afford to lose this family just because of a st***d journal. A few moments later, Cooper arrives with the kids and she hugged them so tightly.
The next day, she baked a cake for her husband and he ignored it. B invited Devon and Trina to celebrate Cooper's victory at work. Trina then invited them for a party. That night, they were brought into a weird kind of party. Something that Billie has never experienced even when she was with Brad. It was actually a sex party where people do it in an open space where others can watch you do your own thing with your partner. You can also join them if you want. That's the weirdest thing ever that both of them never knew. Billie and Cooper have almost raised the heat when B gets awkward when the crowd started staring at them. Trina comes in to interfere and tried to lift Cooper's confidence by doing it orally with him. She went speechless, now she felt devastated seeing her husband do it with another person right in front of her. She walks away and Devon came to her and tried to get even. It ended into a big fight between Devon and Cooper. Their trouble has just gotten worst because of that party. Brad came to see Billie that night. He brought her a ring and proposed to her but Billie refused. All she wanted was to be with her husband.
Cooper now is being blackmailed by Devon trying to get the partnership thru his help because of what he did to him. He then tells Francesca everything about the party. It somehow saved him. Francesca tells Cooper to leave his wife but still she hasn't forced him to do so.
At Hudson's school, a mother of his classmates tell her child not to play with the kid. Billie confronted her and she found out that Trina flipped their story about the sex party.
It was "United Nations" event at Hudson's school. Billie tried to call her husband but he never answered. Meanwhile, Cooper is headed to Brad's place after work. He came to see him to once and for all end the trouble that his wife's journal started. Brad told him everything, that Billie had chosen him, that he even proposed to her and she refused because she wanted to only be with her husband. Cooper went to the event late to see Billie getting humiliated by the other parents. They walked away from the event and went to some place they could talk privately and away from their toxic friends.
After that night, things started to get better. Their efforts to get back their happy marriage is working. Billie enrolled to finish her PhD program, Devon and Cooper became friends again, everything is almost back to normal. Until one day, Billie pictures out Brad watching her from afar in one of Sash's book launching. She started getting doubtful again.
One night at Hudson's school play, Billie's mind went rumbling again. Then she ends up running to Brad's place while Cooper tracks her on his phone. He then calls Francesca with a sad face. And that ends Season 1.
The Story of B and B (Brad and Billie)
Billie comes to New York with a great dream and hope for a successful life. She goes to parties at night with Sasha, they met different guys, hook up with them. Then he meets Brad. He offered her a ride one night, he brought her into his place. She fell in love with him.
Brad is a record producer, he's got money and all. But one thing he's never had is family. His mother is separated from his dad and she is with another man he doesn't like. He introduced Billie to his mom one night but was ruined by his step father. He was so upset that he broke up with Billie that night.
She was so hurt by his words. Sash told her to stop seeing him and to never listen to this man when he tries to get back with her. But B goes weak by his words and in the next scene, they were together again.
Brad is a good person, he just have this family issues he couldn't get over with. She fell in love with him being a gentleman and one with a great sex appeal. He was a sweet person, even have their initials tattooed on his waist. He was seriously in love with her, too. They have their own world together. Both were so sexually active and wild and it filled B with so much contentment. She felt safe and at home in Brad's arms. She could never ask for more.
The Billie gets pregnant. He got confused and left Billie again but later realized he's going to have a family on his own and gets back with her again. She moves in to his place. Her pregnancy let out the good things in Brad. But that didn't last long enough. She had a miscarriage, after that, they went to Billie's cousin's wedding where Brad meets her parents. At the night of the party, B caught him kissing the bartender.
Billie was such a calm lady and tells Brad to fix his issues, especially with his dad. She encouraged him to find his dad. A few days after that, Billie comes home seeing her stuff all packed up. Brad sent her away, throwing all her stuff in the elevator.
After that, she had never seen him again. Then she met Cooper.

My Reaction
I have never watched a movie series, this daring. I mean, it felt like I'm watching porn in all the episodes. This is more intense than the "365 Days" movie. The 3rd episode contains the funniest (for me) where it's clips and pictures went viral on social media. You will know why when you watch it.
Billie for me could be experiencing postpartum depression. She never had it for eight years but after giving birth to their youngest. Being a mom is an exhausting duty. You stay at home, look after the kids and wait for your husband to come home. Most of my friends who are stay at home moms, they feel bored inside the house. They do all the chores and after that, the day would just end without them seeing the outside world. It's frustrating sometimes. Not being able to meet your friends. Missing the old days where you enjoy the life that you got used to. It's really hard.
She had a dream of becoming a PhD which unfortunately discontinued when she got pregnant. Her world stopped and rolled in one place which is at home. Everything seemed different for her. She lost the parties, the sex life that she had when she was young and wild.
I pity Cooper's character in this movie. He was such a good man whom you could never find one these days. He is very patient and kind and really works hard to keep his family. He obviously doesn't get easily jealous but I can feel the insecurity creeping out of him.
Billie's flashbacks which she wrote on her journal in full detail. It doesn't only reflect her sexual cravings but also tells that she might still be in love with Brad. They had that bond she could never forget and that's what she is looking for with Cooper, but Cooper couldn't give it to her because he is a totally different person.
She has all the love, the security and all the best you can find in a husband with Cooper. But with the lack of sexuality she is totally incomplete.
I hated the character of B in the sense that, she never thought of her children's welfare. She focused on her sexual fantasies and chose to lose the wonderful family she built together with Cooper - just because she wanted to get wild again. She is married and should never think of another man. Even though she hasn't physically cheated but the heart says it all, her journal says how she felt. Then she end up going to Brad to fill her sexual emptiness.
All along I thought they could save their marriage and prove to their toxic neighborhood that they are strong in all circumstances. Billie ruined everything. All the efforts have gone to waste.
I don't understand what the series is actually telling it's viewers. It seems to say that failed marriages are okay. At the same time maybe it wants to tell us that no matter how good life can become, it can still be messed up when you fall into the wrong person. Love will bring you back to where you belong. Because if Billie insists that she loves Cooper more, then why would she keep on remembering Brad and entertaining his calls and text? She should never accept calls from him. She's obviously still in love with Brad.
Also maybe it wants to tell us that intimacy in every relationship should be stronger and must be improved after marriage. It contributes to your personal bond with your partner. Cooper could still win his wife if only he would also focus on her not just because he read her journal but because it's what he wants. Couples also need to explore new things together and not just settle with a common life routine.
After watching this series, I got really pissed off. Lol! I hate sad endings.
I share your sentiments about the conclusion of the movie. My takeaway from the movie is, I really appreciated how they portrayed the importance of intimacy in a relationship particularly a marriage. I actually thought it would work out in the end, boy! was I wrong😄
