Barn owl: Nesting period: Spring – summer (March to July) Place of laying / nest / birth: Nest located in a natural cavity (rock, tree trunk) or of human origin (chimney, steeple, attic, barn) The nest is lined with plants, earth and balls of rejection. Number of annual broods: 2 broods per year Number of eggs per clutch: 4 to 8 eggs per clutch Duration of incubation / brooding: 29 to 35 days; only the female incubates the eggs Weaning: The little chicks are altricial. The beak is provided by the female. The fledglings take off after about 2 months. They will still remain dependent on their parents for several weeks.
