How good life can be when we have friendly, warm and helpful neighbors around us.It contributes a lot to the joy of living and helps reduce the problems in life.Hence, the biblical saying is true: "Better a neighbor is better than a brother far away."
Unfortunately,however,this type of neighborhood seems to disappear today. In many places, people see a change, a growing disinterest in others. Without a doubt, you've recently read headlines like this: The public ignores the abused woman;The girl died while the driver was walking by;The crying was ignored and the woman dies in the mud.The stories that follow in such headlines are often about people saying that "I didn't mean to interfere" could’ve helped.
Smiles, warm greetings, courtesy, warmth and friendliness seem to be the main shortcomings today. Many, on the other hand, claim to experience increasing coldness, indifference and rudeness. What is the reason? Some people blame modern industrial society heavily. It emphasizes speed, mass production, and often leads to seeing people in large factories as "cogwheels" rather than individuals with individual needs, wants and personalities. Big cities are another part of modern society. Those who live there often feel lonely despite being surrounded by millions of people,it’s only few people who seem to have time to care about others.But whether in the city, on the outskirts or in the countryside, the materialism that modern society encourages is something that affects people's attitudes towards others.The situation in our society in general has changed enormously,there is a real lack of values. People become more and more selfish, and the instability of money increases selfishness. Yes, the interest is much more in things (houses, cars, clothes, entertainment devices) than in people. But that doesn't really satisfy the human heart. It goes against the spirit of generosity or “open-mindedness”. You tend to become sensitive and ready to make your wishes come true at the expense of others. The spread of economic problems and inflation now shows how pointless it is to seek material things for happiness or security. But instead of waking up to reality, many simply worry more about their financial issues and, as a result, become more withdrawn, care less about others, and put in less effort to contribute to the happiness of others.
The treatment?
What could be the cure? To know what it is, first we have to realize that the main problem is not about big cities or big factories or similar circumstances. Because even under the same circumstances, people don't react the same way. They may live in the same city, in the same neighborhood, even on the same street, or work in the same factory, and some may not be concerned about their neighbors and others.
What makes the difference?The answer has more than simple interest and meaning. Because it is about life itself, precisely the hope of eternal life.During the first century a man asked Jesus of Nazareth, "Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus responded by quoting the law: "You must love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind" and "love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus added, "Go ahead and you will have life." “He continued with the parable of a Samaritan who showed genuine love for his neighbor. In fact, love of God and love of neighbor are inseparable.If anyone says, 'I love God,' and yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love the brother he has seen cannot love God.We can therefore understand why love for the neighbor is so rare today,this is because the love of God becomes just as rare.God's love, interest in knowing him, reading his words(the Bible;Quran) and knowing his principles and intentions can really "cool" most of the present time. Knowing God and fulfilling His purpose can make a big difference in our attitude toward others. It can change our values, give us a much greater and more satisfying hope than the materialistic system that works today. Yes, it can lead us to "expand" our affection so that we, like God, unselfishly care about the entire human world
Because of Him, we became more positive in life, and we became feel alive.
