More than two years ago, while interacting of Facebook, someone drop a comment asking: "Is life fair or unfair?". An online friend, who's already 25 years old that time, that is so much smart immediately replied for a comment.
She says "Life is unfair." And the stubborn 18 years old me can't agree to her because that's not what I think so I said, "No. Life is fair."
So the conversation went on and on and we had a heated conversation arguing about life whether is it fair or unfair.
I don't know what got into me that time that no matter how much she made her point I just can't agree with her. So even if I was young I did try my best to prove my point. To prove my belief until they hear my point, and at least acknowledge it without having the same belief as mine.
Well, that's just what I want in the first place anyway. I just want them to at least hear my point which they weren't acknowledging at first just because I am young and they probably have encountered and experienced more life problems than I am that they think of life so negatively.
I don't know why I suddenly remember of that time again. But if I were to be asked about it again, I will surely have the same answer.
Life is fair.
I'm not saying i'm right and you are wrong if ever that you have a different perspective. Because what is being asked does not have the right or wrong answer. It is our belief, our perspective. And there is nothing wrong with that.
But for now, let me present to you my point/s on why am I thinking this way. Thinking that life is fair despite all these negativity that is surrounding the world.
First, let me borrow this statement from a Facebook post that I've seen somewhere. It says there that "Life is unfair. Life is unfair to me. Life is unfair to you. Life is unfair to them. Therefore, life is fair."
Did you see the point? It just says there that life is unfair to everyone. All of us experiences problems, misfortunes, hardships, or whatever term you want to call it. The point here is that just because we have our problems to bear doesn't mean that we are bearing the whole world on our shoulder.
Maybe whatever we are bearing must be so heavy but it's not the whole world. And you may think or you may be wondering why are those things happening to you, you may think that you don't deserve that. Well then, it's true. No one deserves to suffer but it is part of life. And if life is unfair to you, it is also unfair to everyone, for you are not the only one that is experiencing all that.
This might seem ironic but my point is just life is unfair to all of us. And that what makes life fair. It is fair in a way that we are all experiencing problems just on different levels maybe. But we all suffer and we all feel pain.
Since I already mentioned that we have different levels of problems and burden, let's move on to my next point which will lead us to this article's title "The Rule of Equity".
Actually, equity is used as a term for business but somehow, I can relate it to real life problems.
According to Oxford languages, equity is the quality of being fair and impartial.
Take note of the two important words from the definition of equity. Fair and impartial. Just like what is being illustrated on the photo above.
On the left side, shows what equality looks like. While on the right side, it shows how equity works. Did you see how it still became fair to the three guys despite not having equal treatments?
Well, that's the exact purpose of equity. And this is my main point on how life became fair. Because, just like on the rule of equity, we can clearly be fair without being the same or equal.
So despite not having the same loads of burden, it is still fair to us that we have much lighter or much heavier problems than other people.
We all experience problems. It is just fair to experience problems. Some of you here might have heavy burdens, I can't answer why it is like that but what I can is that we were given those heavy loads because the Lord knows that we have the ability and capability to carry it. Or if you're not a religious person just think about how the universe is giving all that problems to you because the universe knows that you are strong.
So let's not compare about the weight of our difficulties.
I do believe that what we are given to us is just enough for us to handle. We might think we cannot handle it but I know that you know that we don't have a choice but to fight, lift off those burdens until it left your shoulders.
You are strong that's why you have problems. Try to think it this way, we cannot let a grade one student answer a quadratic equation because it's a lesson for grade 9 students and a grade one student barely know how to add and subtract. Or you can't teach college students how to add and subtract because they already know it and they won't get any learning from it.
Did you see my point in there? We were given problems on our level. Maybe it's just natural that we get to more and more harder situations as we grow up.
So don't think that life is being unfair to you because it's not. It is fair to everyone. Or at the very least, this is just what I think and what I believe.
It is just sometimes, we don't get to ask why. But don't waste your time asking why it is happening to you. Instead, just try to get every lessons you can get from all those problems that you have. So that next time, you'll be braver, wiser and stronger to face another level of problems. Because those problems just won't stop on coming.
Life is not full of sunshine and rainbow. It has its ugly parts but those ugly parts are fairly shown to everyone of us. So please, remember that you are not alone. Whatever you are experiencing, it is just not you. Just try to learn, keep your faith and finish the race.
With that, i'll leave you with this bible verse,
Romans 8:18 "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us."
this is an excellent article with a great message. thanks for writing!
