Gabe stay stunned on where he is standing. Unlike earlier that his feet is on its running mode, it’s now glued on the floor and he can’t move, he can’t take a step, he can’t run. His body is like paralyzed and only his eyes can move.
It keeps on shifting on the fan arts he made and on Melody’s eyes. Melody also look at him and when their eyes met, she said “It’s been a while, Gabriel” and that pulled him back on his reverie.
Face flushed, Gabe smiled awkwardly as he says “Finally, you remember me.” She then asked him to sit on the chair across her and he followed hesitantly.
The moment he sits down, Amelia asked Gabe worriedly. “What happened to you, son?” And when Gabe can’t give her an answer, “Why are you so red? Is it because of Melody?” she asked him again, but with pure teasing this time.
Melody laughed on Amelia’s remark while Gabe sit there uncomfortably, redder than he could ever be.
Amelia and Melody went on with their conversation, they are talking about Gabe like he’s not there on their front. The girls are surely having a good time totally ignoring Gabe’s presence in front of them. The two talked like mother and daughter who really are close, like they have known each other since forever and that they cannot be separated. They have created a strong bond on a short period of time and they are just so comfortable with each other.
On the other hand, Gabe remained seated on the chair stiffly while plotting on his mind the things that he can do to make his mother pay back for causing him too much embarrassment on just a single day.
Few minutes later, Melody must’ve felt Gabe’s stare into her that she finally acknowledge his presence and include him on her conversation with his mother.
“These fan arts looks so cute. Are you going to give it to me?” Melody asked to Gabe.
“Uh… Sure. If you wan—“
“That’s for sure, dear. He made that for you. Of course you can have it.” Amelia butt in.
Melody looks at Gabe as if she was asking him then Gabe just give her a small smile in agreement to what his mother told.
“Thanks Gabe! I really love it. You drew so well! This one looks like a very cute version me.” Melody said in glee while pointing on a fan art that Gab made for her.
Gabe, still overwhelmed by Melody’s presence, simple utter “you’re welcome”. He feels so lost. Everything happened so fast. It was just last night when Melody witnessed how he messed up with the gas pump, then it was just that morning when she mistook him as a stalker and now, she’s in front of him, so carefree that she talks so comfortably to him and to his mom.
Another minute passed when Amelia finally decided to bid her goodbye.
“Hey, Melody. My boy right here, you see, he looks like a statue sitting on that chair because he have such a big admiration for you. I’m betting he’s like that because everything hasn’t sank into him yet.”
“He used to blabber about how great of a singer you are at our home ever since you were on high school. I’m glad that you still remember him. I’ll leave you two for now to give you time to catch up.”
“And hey son, I told Melody about the festival at the town proper tomorrow. I just remembered that I have some important things to do so just accompany her instead of me.” That was Amelia’s last words as she finally go out the door.
But just seconds later, the door opened again, revealing Amelia as she say “Gabe, come on! Did you literally became a statue? Move your ass right there and show her your charms. I’m rooting for you, you got this my boy.” And finally, she went away.
It’s now just Gabe and Melody on the living room and Amelia’s absence leaves an awkward air and silence to the two. Both of them seems like to forget how to talk that they can’t even speak to finally open up a conversation.
The silence is so deafening that they can’t take it anymore. One has to speak and so “hey…” they both said in unison that made them look at each other and then the next thing that happened, they are bursting out into laughter.
Just like that, awkwardness and uncomfortable silence is finally gone. Well, Gabe’s still not that comfortable but he can sit with ease now. Unlike earlier that he sits like a military man, so straight and stiff that you won’t even notice him breath.
After the good laugh that they shared, Gabe finally find the courage to at least try to speak casually, trying hard to hide that mixed emotion he was feeling right at that moment. “Hey, it’s been a while. I see, you’re famous now.” Gabe said.
“Oh, no. Not really. But finally, I feel like I’m slowly achieving my dreams now.” Melody replied.
“And you deserve it. I always knew you can do it. I have seen you work hard for it since the beginning.”
“Thanks, Gabe. You may look so different now but you’re still the same. You’re still the sweetest.” Melody was so touched with what Gabe has said but Gabe being Gabe, a shy smile is her only response to Melody.
“See! See what I’m talking about. You’re like that even before. You always feel shy whenever you are receiving compliments.” Melody said again which made Gabe blushed even more.
“Aww. Gabe, you really are adorable.”
“Okay, enough with that. I can’t take anymore teasing and embarrassment for today so let’s talk about you this time. How are you, Melody? Are you okay now?”
“I’m doing well, as you can see.” Melody replied shortly.
“Uh huh? Are you sure? You think I didn’t notice your tear stained face last night? And look at you, your eyes says it all. You can tell me all about it.”
Melody smiled sadly as she told him her story. She doesn’t know why she is telling him all that but Gabe just really have something on him that can make her open up to him. They haven’t seen each other for years now but for some unknown reason, it is so easy for her to feel comfortable around him that she just can’t help it but to cry on his shoulder as she tells everything to him.
Gabe put her arms on her shoulder as he silently console her. He’s mad, he hates Mark but he still manage to sit there calmly while Melody is telling him everything.
After crying for some time, Melody slightly pulled away from Gabe then she said sorry for wetting his shirt.
“You know what, let’s not talk about that jerk anymore. He doesn’t deserve your tears and it’s the right decision that you left him.”
“Let’s just talk about your upcoming concert. Are you excited about it?” Gabe asked as he tried to divert their topic.
What Gabe asked put a smile on Melody’s face because she cannot hide her excitement about it. The conversation just went on and on until they saw Melody’s mementos and that reminds them of their high school memories.
Melody is teasing Gabe about how he looks like back then. Such a thin, not that tall nerdy guy who have four eyes. “How did you become so tall? Look at this nerdy, is this really you?”
“Hey hey! For your information, you used to wear glasses too. If I was a nerd, so are you.”
The two rummaged on her old stuffs together and had such fun time reminiscing of the good old days they had on high school. They are having a good laugh about the old photo on their yearbook when Sebastian came and interrupted them.
“Please excuse me for a while. Mademoiselle, it’s getting dark now, you need to take a rest.” Sebastian said to Melody.
“Oh. I didn’t notice the time. Thank you for reminding me, Sebastian. I’m going to rest later.” Melody replied to Sebastian with a smile.
“You really needs to rest. It’s been a long day for you. I’ll go home for now so that you can finally rest.” Gabe said to Melody the moment Sebastian take his leave.
“Oh, no. Are you going home because of Sebastian?”
“Of course not. It’s already late, I agree with him. You should have your rest now. Besides, we will still see each other tomorrow for the festival, remember?”
“Oh, that! Your mom said it’s fun and exciting. I’m already looking forward to it.”
“So I guess, I gotta take my leave now. Good bye, Melody. I’ll just see you again tomorrow.”
“Thanks, Gabe… for today. I enjoyed catching up with you and I really appreciate you listening to me earlier.”
“No worries, Melody. Thank you for sharing it to me. I’ll be going now.”
“Thanks again, Gabe. See you tomorrow!” Melody said as she walk Gabe towards her door.
Gabe just gave her a soft smile which she returned before he finally turn around and started walking his way home. The moment he turned around, he looks like a giddy teenager who couldn’t hide his smile. What happened that day truly gives a permanent plaster of smile on his face. It was such a nice lovely day, he couldn’t even wait about what will happen tomorrow.
