Melody tapped away on her phone to see several missed calls. She stopped on her tracks and looked back.
"Hmm. Have I met that guy before? He looked oddly familiar. Oh well. "
She shrugged the thought of and continued walking along the streets. She thought that he may have watched some shows of her or on one of her gigs before.
She dialed Sebastian's number and called him, the old man picked up within seconds of ringing.
"Dear me, mademoiselle. Where are you at? Mark is here with me at your place. He's frantic and was looking for you."
"Leave him be. No..." she paused and thought for a moment.
"Tell him to wait for me at the amusement park. And as for you, can you pick me up at the gas station before the 66 freeway. Bring my big pink suitcase. Oh and not a word to that jerk."
"As you wish mademoiselle."
The call was dropped and she went back inside the store. She waited for just around half an hour and there was Sebastian with her things.
He noticed her puffy eyes and her messy make up when she took of the hat and the shades she was wearing. He gave her a fresh handkerchief and opened up the door for her. Melody got into the car and Sebastian went around to go to the driver's side.
"Get me to the rest house." she said as she was mending the look on her face.
"Which one mademoiselle?" He asked.
"That one near the beach."
Melody was devastated, she was distraught but just like any artist she has her way of concealing what she was feeling. But for that moment, she couldn't she broke down crying again as she was reminiscing her times with Mark.
The car abruptly stopped and Melody looked around and then turned to Sebastian.
"Why did you stop?"
"Here." Sebastian said as he gave her a bottle of champagne.
"What is this for?" she was puzzled.
"That's to celebrate your freedom mademoiselle. It's a good riddance if I may speak freely. He does not hold a candle to your standards and he's a good for nothing jerk. He's blind not to see what you're worth. That boy does not deserve your tears mademoiselle."
Melody chuckled as she was wiping her tears down with the handkerchief.
"You really do know what to say every time. Thank you for that. I will be okay." she said while controlling her sobs.
Sebastian nod at her on the rear view mirror and started driving again.
It took them several hours to get to their destination. It was Melody's hometown. She bought a beach house there so she has a place to stay whenever she wants to get away from the intrusive lights of fame and showbusiness.
Sebastian talked to the caretaker and Melody went up to her room.
He then placed Melody's suitcase beside the door and asked her if there's anything else she requires for the night.
"That's all. You may rest Sebastian. Good night."
Her butler left her carefully closing the door behind him. She went into the bathroom and took a warm shower and got readied for bed.
Her room was overlooking the shore, the view through the glass walls was stunning. She could see the full moon over the sky and its reflection illuminating the calm seawater that kisses and converges on the horizon far away.
She collapsed into her big, cushy and comfortable bed and dozed into the night leaving the sorrow of the past day behind yesterday.
The following morning. She woke up fairly early and the sun was just beginning to rise. She hurriedly got up, fixed her face up and dressed lightly with a hoodie on top. She ran downstairs and passed Sebastian who was on the kitchen preparing for breakfast.
"Top of the morning mademoiselle."
"Good morning Sebastian." she managed to say before she went out and disappeared into the door and out in the open. She was not even wearing any footwear and she could feel the cool grains of sand underneath her feet. She was like a kid jumping and prancing all around, she even tried a routine that she'll do as a dance number on her concert.
When she calmed down, she sat on the edge of the shore where her feet are being teased and tickled by the cool waves embracing the shore.
Despite going through a breakup she was in high spirits, maybe it's because of the beautiful sunrise in front of her and the hope it brings and promises to everyone witnessing it.
Her smile was genuine, heartfelt and it was just drawn from ear to ear and she was not even controlling it. She turned to her left when she saw from her peripheral vision that there was someone walking towards her direction.
She looked at the man and she was still smiling. She thought for a while and she gasped when she realized why the face was familiar to her. He was the same guy yesterday messing up the gas pump.
She was quick to her feet and she ran towards her door. She thought that the guy was following her and she closed the door hurriedly behind her. She then peeked through the blinds of the window to see what the guy was doing.
Her eyes grew wider as she watched him walked towards her door, and then backing away just to turn around towards the door and away again. It's like he can't make up his mind what to do while he was visibly muttering some things while scratching the back of his head.
Slowly, Melody opened the door ever slowly and brought her head to peek out on the seemingly prancing man. Bit by bit, inch by inch, the door was opening gradually and she was now in front of it.
She tried and called out the guy, "uhm... he---hello?.. May I help you?"
Her panic and fear was now overcame by curiosity and oddly enough, guilt.
The guy then stopped on his tracks; slowly and carefully he turned to where the voice came from. Towards the door, towards the house where Melody ran off to. He then took a step forward but hesitated. He then ran away from there as fast as his legs would permit.
Melody's eyebrows curled down drawn together in confusion.
"Why.. what just happened?"
Sebastian emerged from the door way and asked. "Who was that guy? Look at him go. What did you do mademoiselle?"
"You know what? I am not sure myself." Melody was perplexed.
