Principles of Organization

In my almost one month being a user of this platform, I have encountered many users that are students and others also have their works.

As a student myself, specially now that classes are being held online or through module, it is so hard for us to manage our time in studying, doing our what seems like unending requirements, household chores, plus writing an article in here.

I know, it's almost the same for the professionals because they probably have a lot more in their shoulders compared to us, students.

Because of the many tasks given to us, as I have mentioned, sometimes all the works are juggling and we don't know, I personally don't know where to start.

It is so hard to manage everything. It is so hard to plan what to do today, or for the rest of the week. We make schedules that sometimes we can't follow and I think, we are having a hard time because of lack of organization.

Well, there are another factors why we are having a hard time but I know for sure that lack of organization contributes to those hardships.

What I did tonight, is to search on the internet "How to organize your time properly?" but what caught my attention when the results showed up is the title of this article which is the Principles of Organization.

So I read it's content and it seems applicable on our daily situation.

Here are the Four (4) Principles of Organization:

  1. Chronological Order

This is also known as the order of time. In this principle, items, events, or even ideas are presented in order of their occurrence.

This best suits narration of a story wherein the order of events are illustrated according to the time when it happens.

Next, then, later, and many other words are the indicator for this principle.

As a student, I can apply this principle on doing my requirements according to its deadline.

When requirements are given to us, I always take note of the deadline. And as much as possible, I do those activities first to avoid cramming and to be more productive in doing the other activities.

  1. Spatial Order

The second principle is spatial order. In this principle, items are arranged according to their physical position or relationships.

This principle is pretty common in descriptions but it can also be used for examples, comparisons and classifications.

My application on this principle is I study my lessons per subjects. For instance, out of our six subjects, i'll study two today.

I do that for my mind not to explode. Too much information can make me remember not a thing so I do this so that I can focus my attention on the subject that i'm studying.

For instance, I have eight subjects and there are already lessons on those subjects that I should study. I don't study all eight of them at a time. What I do is to focus to subjects one by one.

Actually this is still related to chronological order because for example, my nearest deadline for an activity is for our Filipino subject, then i'll study Filipino first. Even though I still have requirements for other subjects, i'll do all activity and study every lessons about Filipino first before I move on to another subject.

  1. Climactic Order

The third one is climactic order or this is also what we call Order of Importance.

This is pretty easy actually. From it's name Importance, we do things from most important to least important, we do things that is our most priority to our least priority.

Again, this is related to principle number 1. Usually, those who have the nearest deadline are the important ones and they should be prioritized.

But not all the time that the nearest deadline is the most important. Sometimes, this principle is a violation for principle number 1 because even though things may have come first, the later that comes may turn to be more important.

This is very common on emergency rooms on hospitals. Order of importance is their policy when it comes to emergency patients. It doesn't matter who comes first on the hospital, what matters is the patient that needs to be treated immediately.

  1. Topical Order

This principle only arises from the nature of the topic itself.

Like when having a conversation, any topic can be discussed so this will only arise if a certain topic has already been discussed.

I think I can related this to yes no questions will a follow up question why. Usually, if the question asked us why, we have to define and defend our answer and that's when this principle arises.

Four Principle of Organization Working Together

After knowing all the principles, I think we could use them all together in organizing our tasks efficiently and effectively.

First, let us apply the spatial order. Let us study each lessons one at a time. Let's not jump from one lesson to another lesson because in the end, it might consume all our time in starting every activities and there is none that we have finished.

Next is chronological and climactic order. After we have categorized everything using spatial order, let us consider doing first what's important and what's near the deadline.

And lastly, the last principle is the principle which we can encounter anytime so let's just be prepared as we encounter the topical order.

It can be one of the questions on one of our activities. It can be a sudden arousal of our interest on a certain matter as we study our lessons. And it can also be a topic that will lead us to another topic.

It can literally be anything and when it happens, let's just make sure to focus on it and accomplish it.

-

I hope that this type of organizations can help us even in simple way. I hope that it did help us to straighten our priorities.

But just a reminder, no matter how we plan things. No matter how neatly we scheduled the things that we should do, it's accomplishment is still dependent on us.

On our motivation and willingness to finish and achieve all the tasks that we have assigned to do for ourselves.

So let us keep our motivation going. Let's not lose ourselves on our laziness or on whatever that thing that is keeping us to move and to start doing the things that we should do.

As we plan a goal, let's make sure that it's achievable and let us do everything on our power to achieve it. So that in the end, we'll feel that fulfillment from achieving even the simple goals that we have planned.

Let us be an achiever of our own goals. Keep thriving!
