Basing from the poster, this challenge was officially launched by our church last April 18, 2021, during our Sunday Worship Service and it started last April 19 and the challenge will end until May 18, 2021.

On our worship service on April 18, a message about Taking God's Word to Heart: The Purpose and Power of Scripture Memorization was delivered to us wherein three questions of why, what and how was answered.

WHY should we commit the scriptures to memory?

  • We have a MANDATE to memorize the scripture. It is because God has commanded us to do so.

  • Jesus Christ MODELED scripture memorization. He quoted 24 books of the Old Testament almost 180 times in the New Testament.

WHAT are the benefits of scripture memorization?

  • For spiritual growth and victory. Memorizing the scripture will strengthen our faith.

  • For personal counselling and ministering. It is part of our Christian lives to minister to others. Scripture has the power to teach, to train and to guide.

  • For personal witnessing. It is for us to witness the goodness and faithfulness of our Lord. As an ambassador of Christ, we should know His words so that we'll have something to answer that will represent Him whenever that someone will ask us about His words.

  • For praying the scriptures. When we pray His words, it strengthens our faith, it empowers our prayer life, it gives us hope and it conquers our enemies. God's word is our weapon.

HOW to effectively memorize the scripture?

Here are some tips on how we can memorize the scriptures:

  • Read, write and recite.

  • Post your memory verse somewhere in your house where you can always see it.

  • Use a Bible memory app.

  • You can make it as a game or a song.

  • Get a memory verse partner.

  • Participate in our 30-day scripture memory challenge! :)

As we do Scripture Memorization, we will have:

  • Mind informed by the will of God

  • Heart enflamed with the love of God

  • Hands extended in the service of God.

As to what the title of the challenge implies,

Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. -Joshua 1:8

We can have success and prosperity as we do what the Bible tells us to do.

Here's the link for the facebook page of our Church where verses are being posted daily.

As for our family, we have decided to join in the challenge. It has been a week now since the challenge was launched and it was really fun knowing God's words and memorizing them together with the family.

Screenshot of the first part of the scripture memory challenge

As you can see, above is the first 12 days for our memory verse challenge. First part is about Living the New Life as Christians. Verses depends on the topic that was being taught to us. For example, Memory verse #1&2 is about putting Christ at the center of our lives. See the photo above for reference.

The verses are organized based on its categories and it is very useful for us because for example, we have to pray about obedience, then we can remember and claim it in our prayer the Romans 12:1 and John 14:21 for those are the verses that are related to obedience.

To add a little more fun in memorizing these at home, Ate and Kuya have implemented these rules for us to be more encouraged in participating with the challenge.

  • Recite and earn 2ophp or $.40. If we were able to recite the memory verse for that day without making any mistake and without forgetting any word, then we'll have 20php.

  • No verse, no meal. We recite the verse daily before we have our dinner. We can't start eating unless we recite the verse.

  • If we failed to recite, it's our turn to shine. When we say it's your turn to shine, that only means that the one we are pertaining to is the one who will going to wash the dishes.

It feels so good seeing everyone in the house participating in the challenge. From our youngest which is 11 years old, and to the eldest 62 years old (my mom). It became our bonding together and at the same time, we are also growing spiritually by knowing God's words and memorizing them.

So if you made it this far in reading this, even though you don't come from our church, or we might have different religion, you can still do your own version of memorizing scriptures. You can visit our facebook page to get the materials, or you can also hit me a comment or DM and i'll give you the soft copy of the materials.

Let's continue to grow more deeper into God through knowing His words.

As I end this, i'm gonna leave you with this verse...

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sinĀ against you.-Psalm 119:11

... as a reminder for us to know and keep the word of God so that we won't sin against Him. After all, we cannot follow and avoid what we do not know.
